Message from Ms Williams
Hello Lower School Parents!
The Lower School will be celebrating Lit Blitz the week of September 16-20. Coincidentally our school is also celebrating the UN’s International Day of Peace on Friday, Sept 20th. Our LitBlitz theme, “Getting Along Makes Everyone Strong,” also supports the CDNIS celebration of Peace Day. Throughout the week, students can visit the Lit Blitz display near the 9th floor entrance highlighting beloved international books promoting peace, respect, and kindness – all aspects of “getting along.” We encourage you to talk to your kids about what you do as a family to “get along.” It’s a great family dinner conversation!
The kick-off event for Lit Blitz is International School Library Day, which is on Tuesday, Sept 17th. This is a FANTASTIC Lower School event where parent volunteers host tables celebrating books and authors from their home countries. As part of the international festivities, students in Grades Prep to 6 are invited to dress up in their national costume, national symbols (flags, maple leaves, stars and stripes, etc), or sportswear supporting their national teams.
Lit Blitz will wrap up on Friday, Sept 20, with Pancake, Pyjama and PEACE Day. This is, without a doubt, one of the best days of the year for our Lower School kids! They go bonkers for it! Children from Pre-Reception to Grade 6 are invited to come to school dressed in their pyjamas on Friday, Sept 20th. Teachers may read “bedtime stories” in the classroom or students can read in their cozy jammies with their stuffies (based on teacher approval). But that’s just half the fun! The cafeteria will serve pancakes for lunch and CISPA will supply real Canadian maple syrup. The kids LOVE eating pancakes at school! Students who already have school lunch this day will be given pancakes for lunch on the 20th. They don’t have to do anything else! For students who are home lunch on the 20th, please send in exact change in an envelope labelled with your student’s name. Teachers will collect lunch money Friday morning to reduce lines and wait times during lunch.
Pancake lunch prices are below. (Again, for students who already have school lunch, they don’t need to send in money.)
– Pre-Reception & Reception: $10 for pancake snack
– Prep-Grade 1: $36 for pancake lunch
– Grades 2-6: $39 for pancake lunch
