Uke Summative – Eastside

Hi, For my uke summative I chose the song Eastside. It was really fun using software instruments and I really enjoyed playing the uke. The only hard part I had was singing because I can’t sing.

Well anyway, Hope you enjoy!

How is your recording the same as the original song? Why did you do this?

The chords and drums are at the same time as the recording because I specifically listened carefully at the real song to try my best to match it as perfectly as I could. The speed is also the same as the real song because I checked the Beats Per Minute. I also made the drums and the chords start and stop at the same time as in the real song. I did all this because I wanted this project to be as accurate to the actual song as well as I could because I felt like it would sound better if I didn’t try to make the beats different. It also made it easier for me to do the software instrument because I could just listen to the actual song and then translate it onto a different tone in my GarageBand.

How is your recording different compared to the original song? What were your reasons behind your decisions?

There are many things that are different in my recording than the actual song like my singing. I changed the tone of the whole song so that I could play easier ukulele chords and so I had to change my singing to the same tone otherwise it would be out of tone and sound really weird. when I was recording the lyrics, I sang some of the lyrics wrong and I might have sung different notes than the ones in the song because I can’t sing really high or low. I changed the notes for the melody on my software instrument because I found it hard to make the notes 100% accurate, I just played the notes according to what I thought the actual notes were but it turned out it wasn’t very accurate. I liked it though and so I kept it.
Ukulele Skills…
I feel like my ukulele skills are sufficient because I am able to change chords fast and strum well. I feel like in this project, it was easier to play the ukulele because I only had 4 chords and they were C F A and G. They are all really easy to play and easy to change to. When I recorded my Uke, I recorded the notes that were repeated throughout the song, then I copied and pasted it over and over again.
Garageband editing – digital instrument, drum use…
I think that the editing and the software instruments are the fun part. I recorded 3 drum tracks on my own. One for cymbals, one for the bass drum, then one with snare and claps. When you put them all together, they sound good. I also have one automatic drummer for the chorus and it helps make it more upbeat and louder. I have 4 Pianos. 2 for melody, 1 for chords and one for the bottom note of the chord. I also have one bass that plays the same notes like the one piano that plays the bottom note of the chord.
Time management for your project…
Time management wasn’t a problem at first but it became harder at the end. I wasn’t free all day this Friday, Saturday and Sunday because I was at church but by that point in time, I just needed to do my singing. I was sort of ahead of time at the start because I knew that I wouldn’t be able to do it on 3 days. I did it when I had free time and on the bus and It helped a lot. My plan was to do a bit every day but I kept slacking off and going off task and I slowly became behind. This morning (Mon 20 Jan), I woke up really early so that I could sing and edit the final bits. That’s why my voice sounded so bad.
Independent learning… (responsibility of getting things done on time)
I think that I was responsible because I was trying to take action because I knew that I had 3 fewer days but I kept slacking and I soon became behind. I had to rush it in the morning it was due. Around that time was when I realised that I needed to do work. I wish that I had more time to sing and edit because I think that mine was really sloppy.

Amazing Grace Uke Summative

This blog post is about my Uke summative.

For this summative, I had to record audio of me singing, strumming and picking on the uke to the song “Amazing Grace” I found it hard to edit because sometimes I would use the wrong tool or cut something that I wanted. I think that picking the melody was my strongest point because I could do that and manage it without any mistakes. I found it harder to strum because I found it hard to move my fingers from one note to another without strumming another string. I also can’t sing great.

Anyways Here’s my recording

What is the key of your tune? Time Signature? *
My tune is in C Major and it is 3/4

What sort of rhythms are used in your song? How were they used musically? *
Amazing grace starts with a pickup note, and then it goes into a minim note, then two quarter notes. This pattern repeats 4 more times and then goes into a whole note. then you repeat the pattern 4 more times and then another whole note ends the song. This pattern has a good effect because has a sort of “swaying” mood and vibe. I think that they chose this type of pattern because if it didn’t have a rest or all the notes were together, the song would be boring.

Discuss your note accuracy and rhythm accuracy in regards to your strumming and melodic playing… *
I found it hard to change from the C key to the F key because they are so far apart. I think that the melodic playing was the best out of the singing and the strumming because I was more accurate on that than the other ones. Even though I struggled with changing the chords, I practised my fingering and I managed to be able to change the chords faster and more accurate. My melody was mostly on beat but it was still not so accurate. Some editing helped it bring it on time.

What Ukulele skills have you acquired? Chords, melody, etc. *
I learnt how to pick the melody of the song I was doing. Last year when we did PA in Lower School, We only learned how to strum the chords. I think that it is harder to pick the melody because you need to change the string and move your fingers to different frets to play the correct note.

How did you decide your tempo to match your song and style? Did the context of the song change because of this? *
I changed the speed of the metronome and so it was faster. I think that if it were a bit slower, it would have a sort of calming vibe but it was a bit faster so I think that that vibe has been decreased. I wanted to play it like how I learned it when I was younger. The version I learned was faster and so accordingly, I played it faster. I think that if it was played slower, it would be more boring. I wanted this song to make you feel good and I feel good when I listen to fast music. I think that the context was changed a bit because of how I played it and its speed. I made the strumming fast and my picking fast and so it’s not a hymn anymore, its a song that makes you feel good.

How did you use the editing tools in Garageband? Trimming, Cutting, pasting, metronome, etc… *
My picking wasn’t in time with my singing and strumming so I had to trim and cut the audio a bit so that it would be in beat. At first, I had a bit of trouble using the editing tools because I didn’t know how to use them. I accidentally deleted my audio and I had to record it again. Sometimes I would accidentally edit the wrong audio clip and ruin a clip that I wanted. I eventually asked some of my friends and google-searched for some advice and I (finally) managed to be able to edit my audio properly without deleting or messing something up in the process.

Discuss your recording process; recording bar at a time, chord at a time, in phrases? Did you have any concerns or issues? *
I recorded the whole thing all in one go. I found it hard because there was a lot of editing involved to make it sound accurate. There wasn’t enough time to record many different clips and so I decided to record everything in one shot. I think that I should have recorded different clips because it would have been easier to edit and I wouldn’t have had to go through all the editing trouble.

Ok thanks for reading and always remember to wear your seatbelt

My Design Logo

This is my Design Logo, It’s not finished but it’s all I could do in the time limit. I had some saving difficulties and I couldn’t do some of the stuff I wanted to do.

These are my questions.

  1. How is this Logo different from other logos?
  2. In the future, what should I add to complete the Logo?
  3. Is there a particular part of the logo that you like?
  4. What do you think about the colours I used for this Logo?

My Instrument Choice

Hi! I am in my first Music lesson with Mr O’Toole

We are supposed to pick an instrument that we want to learn for the remainder of the Music Fine Arts Rotation. I chose Clarinet because I think that it would be cool to learn. I also have never tried it.

Here is some information:

HOW TO SET UP THE CLARINET

  1. Open the case. You want to make sure that the case is on the right side otherwise all the pieces will fall and they might break
  2. When you open the case, You take the reed and put it in your mouth. Suck on it until it is wet (slightly).
  3. Take the longest piece of the clarinet. That is the bottom piece. Then take the bell.
  4. Fasten the bell and the bottom piece together.
  5. Then take the top piece of the clarinet. Fasten it onto the bottom piece and the bell.
  6. Take the mouthpiece and then put it onto the barrel.
  7. Put the mouthpiece part onto the bell part.
  8. Take the reed out of your mouth and put it onto the flat surface on the mouthpiece.
  9. Take the ligature and then use it to fasten the reed onto the mouthpiece. The tighteners go on the right.

THAT WAS HOW YOU SET UP YOUR CLARINET

Unitè 1 Parlez-vous français Le critère C et D a l’oral

Hi!

In case you were wondering, ya summer break was good. This is my first 7th Grade Blog Post.

My task was to do a french introduction. I was partners with Nic (My Fellow 6C Newbie) and I think that we did pretty well. Now I have to do a reflection on how I think I did. So here it is!

I think that I did pretty well. I got a 6 out of 8 and for a beginner, I think that that is a pretty good score. I mispronounced  “tu aimes”, “c’est” and “au milieu”.  I showed enthusiasm when I spoke and I think that I spoke pretty decently. (for a first-timer)! I think that Nic and I need to cooperate better and work together better so that we know what lines each other is speaking because we got confused a lot. I think that I need to manage my time better making the script and recording because we almost didn’t have time to record the audio. We also need to practice more because we made a few careless mistakes.

Now I know what I need to improve on and I hope that I won’t make those mistakes again in the future

thanks! Byeeeeeeeeeeeee (or au revoir to make mdm Boyle happy)

Well its over (For Now)

For all those stalkers on my blog, I did it! I completed my first year at CDNIS and it was awesome! I’m sad that some of my friends are leaving the school like Desmond. Some of my key highlights this year are The Young Americans, Camp, (Pretty much every spotlight) It was really fun being shown around the school, finding out where everything is and overall making new friends! I am sad that school is over but it’s not goodbye, Its see ya later. I am so ready to come back to school next year! Thanks, CDNIS, Thanks,  Mr Mark and all my Specialist Teachers. Always remember to wear your seatbelt. See you next year, Grade 7 Here I Come!

横梁设计 (My Beam Design)

Hi, my name is Matthew. This is my Chinese beam design. I drew a Ying Yang because it has two colours – Black and White. Black represents bad and White represents good. When they are together, it represents a balanced life. I also drew a Lion, a Dragon and some Lanterns. I drew the lion and the Dragon because they represent Power. Lanterns also have a connection to Festivals.

Post Exhibition

Exhibition is over and to be honest, I think that the presentation was easier than the preparation. I think that exhibition was a good experience. I learnt that big projects have to be planned very carefully. I think that my exhibition was a bit rushed because I didn’t have enough time to do most of my things. Exhibition was actually easier and calmer than I thought because I thought that there will be judges and people with clipboards. Exhibition was a big worry for me for a long time but now that it is over, I feel like a big weight has been lifted off my chest. That was exhibiton. It’s a Wrap.

Final Stretch – Exhibition

I am definitely calm and prepared for exhibition. (if you didn’t realise, That was sarcasm) I am mildly freaking out right now and doing really well to hide it. For all I know, I have been working well and being chilled the whole week. and then freaking out inside. My topic has a bit of stress in it and I am working on a way to counter stress and noise pollution. (My topic) You can say that I am a hypocrite. My staging is simple and ok. It’s just a table with my stuff on it. I also have a bookshelf and I can stick stuff on it. I think that My exhibition is coming together pretty ok and I am pretty confident about it.
