Project Genesis – Crit B/D – Final product

For this last assignment in music we had the choice to create whatever we felt like doing and submit it by the 3rd of June. At first I was planning on doing a short remix of all the assignments we had done this year and I had started choosing the exact segments I would be using and mixing together. But then I changed my mind and decided I wanted to do a mashup of a few of my favorite songs combined. So that is what I did. I spent a lot of time choosing the exact songs I wanted (few lessons), then it also took me a while to record everything (audio record the songs). And when all the songs were selected and recorded it took me also quite a while to make everything fit and sound nice together but I eventually finished the task.

I think I did pretty good and I like my mashup track. The songs I think fit in with each other nicely. My goal was to fit in 4 songs into my mashup and I successfully did so. They are all pretty different but they blend into one another smoothly. And my success against my assessable criteria from my proposal is I think pretty good and I am happy about it.

I acquired a few skills in the process of this assignment. For example I now know how to change a song’s timing to make it fit with other songs. But I had to ask for some explanation from my teacher because I was really lost at first. I think I could have done a bit better but at least I still tried my best. I also now know how to select songs with a similar rhythm and beat which will be useful in the future if any similar assignments come up. I didn’t ask for help on this specific example. I just tried to figure it out myself which was really hard at first and it took me quite a while.

I faced a few challenges during this assignment but I would say the main one was to find the right songs. I listen to a lot of different styles of music on the daily so it was hard to find one specific one and find exact songs that would fit in with each other nicely. I simply ended up choosing songs that were not even the same style of music as each other but I thought they still blended nicely together. This step took me quite a while to complete (2-3 full classes in total).

I will be using my new knowledge of the best vocal plug ins from this link.

I will be using the different sounds I learned about from this link.

From this link I will apply my new knowledge of how to create a simple  melody on garage band.

I will use my understanding of how to edit a drum track from garage band to improve my piece.

Project Genesis – Crit C – Proposal

In this assignment I will create a remix of the sounds of cdnis assignment we just did because I felt like I didnt do as well as I wanted and I didnt put enough effort into my work.

I will take the sounds of cdnis actual school sounds but will change my melody and will add more drum tracks and definition to my piece because I didn’t achieve that how I wanted to last time.

I will assess the success of my product with criteria A and D because I feel like they are the most useful and important.

Culminating Assignment – Product and Reflection – Sounds of CDNIS

This assignment took my quite a while to complete. I found it particularly hard to understand what to do and how to do it, but i think i managed to complete the task well and in time.

I chose to use 5 cdnis sounds in total: mouse clicking, keyboard typing, crowd talking, footsteps and writing sounds. They were really useful and they made my final soundtrack sound really interesting and different.

I think during this task I learned a lot and acquired many new skills. For example I learned how to choose closely and evaluate which plugins fit better with which sound. I had some difficulty on some parts but I tried to work through that.

I faced a few challenges during this unit but I think its for the best. For example I had trouble at first with the plug ins. I was really confused on how to add particular ones and so on.

Structures and Forces

Prompt 1:                                                                                                                                How does the natural world (typhoons) affect us?

When powerful typhoons come wind blows really hard and trees fall, building windows can break, things in the street are flying everywhere and everyone is stuck in their home.

Prompt 2:                                                                                                                                    How do we use scientific thinking to learn about the interaction between the natural world and us?

We use scientific thinking to learn about the natural world around us by doing various experiments that prove or show unknown things to us humans.

Prompt 3:                                                                                                                          How did you use science? What did you learn? What experiments or tests did you design?

You can use science in many different ways but we do experiments the most. I learned how to do a detailed graph and many other things… I designed an experiment to measure which building shape was the most suitable against a strong typhoon.

Prompt 4:                                                                                                                                   How did you improve as a learner?

I improved as a learner in many ways but mainly in managing my time because whenever I don’t have enough time during class I try and work at home as much as possible and keep up with the work.

Design VR video promo information

This is what I like about my VR video promo:

I think I created a really successful VR video promo because my video is interesting with all these clouds wondering in the sky. And it will always be unique because clouds are never the same. It also makes this soothing effect on the person who is watching the clouds moving slowly in the video which is really cool! I like it.

This is what I could improve on:

I would definitely try to film the sky more instead of seeing the land. If I could re-do it. I would also like to film on a more sunny day because on the video it looks really dark. But it could definitely look way better with a bit of sun!

Ukulele Song-My Choice-Copycat-Billie Eilish-Louise Moizant

Here is my completed audio assignment.

I chose the song Copycat by the talented Billie Eilish:

How is recording the same and different compared to the original song? What were your reasons behind your decisions?

My recording is quite different and similar at the same time from the original song. Firstly my recording is a bit longer because my tempo was slower, the actual song was going too fast so I decided to make it go a bit slower. I also didn’t record with the same instruments obviously. Again the actual song wasn’t recorded with ukulele so that is a difference.

For the similar parts, well I sang the exact same lyrics as the actual song of course and I also tried to make it on time and for it to sound quite similar to the actual song (even though it doesn’t, really).

How did your music classes prepare you for this assignment?

The music classes really helped me, they prepared me well because I had a lot of time to practice my chords and edit my recording because I already had quite a few pieces of homework and wouldn’t have the full time I really needed to record it properly. It also helped me because I had the teachers advice and tips to make my recording better than it originally was and it was extremely helpful especially for the drumming and electric piano part ( on my recording I chose drumming and electric piano). Then also as I worked together with my classmate it was easier to communicate (because we chose the same song) and help one another even though we weren’t really good at giving one another advice because we are beginners in music! We tried to manage our time!

So in conclusion, yes I would say the music classes really helped me a lot!
