I will be using information about finding songs with similar lyrics/ style and having smooth transitions which I think both are really important.

What is the goal for your assignment and why? 
My goal for this assignment is to create a smooth mashup of four or more songs. I have wanted to try doing mashups for really long as I love listening to mashups of songs I like on Youtube or SoundCloud so I think this is a really good chance and I think I will learn a lot from this.


Outline/Process (Steps) to Achieve Goal. 
First, I will decide what I’m going to do for this project which is a mashup. Then, I will decide what style I want it to be which I have been thinking of doing one of a more summery style but I haven’t decided on that yet. After that, I will choose 4 songs that are the style I chose. I may search for some mashups on the internet to get inspiration. I will start to actually do the mashup after that and make sure I meet all the criteria in the rubric. Finally, I will do a reflection of my product about what I could’ve done better and improve.


What are the criteria you will use to self assess the success of your product? 
I will use some techniques I learnt in the past unit and use them to create a smooth, on tempo mashups.

Describe the process of this assignment. 
I read over the assignment, watched the screencasts and rubric then started doing the project. I put a drummer that I liked first then I played some random notes that I think goes well with the drums and played some chords and drums too. Then, I recorded some random sounds that I heard at my room with objects near me and cut them into pieces to make them on beat. I moved on to the loops part after which was one of the biggest struggles as I didn’t know how to download them and took really long figuring that out. I chose a lot of loops that I liked and matched with my ‘song’ and put them into different parts of it. I then created the middle ‘break part’ of the song since I thought it was really boring just repeating the same parts but with different loops. I chose a loop first then added some of my sounds, chords and more loop into that part which I think was not bad. At last, I made my ending with just three tunes, two wah guitar loops and my chords to make it less empty.


Discuss your CDNIS sounds and how useful they were for your end product. 
I recorded some sounds of hangers, keys, footsteps, clapping, apple eating asmr and also a short clip from my pe zoom session. My favourite one was the apple-eating one because I think it was really special and unique. I also really like the pe talk one which I added bitcrusher to and it made it sound very robot-like and cool, it really matched with the other tunes as well. I think the keys and hangers made some tingling sounds which was interesting. The footsteps and clapping were not very loud and kind of overlapped with the beats and drums so they weren’t that effective.


Evaluate your learning and new skills acquired. 
I learnt how to use GarageBand plugins and also found out about the loops available in it. They were really useful so I’m really glad I learnt that. I also learnt more about music production like for example putting different tunes together which I think was a really really nice experience because I am actually quite interested in music production and I hope I will get to learn more about it in the future. I learnt to be more creative and just do whatever you could think of because that’s what I did and it turned out not bad.


What challenges did you face and overcome? 
I didn’t really understand how to use GarageBand and some of the plugins so I kind of struggled with that but I figured out in the end. Also, the loops were not downloaded for me so I took really long figuring out how to download and use them so that was a huge struggle too. I found it really annoying that when you record an audio, the sound playing will be recorded too so I had to re-record every time when I forget to mute the other tunes. I think the intro was really bad and some transitions between parts were not smooth so I have to learn to make transitions smoother and cleaner.

I learned about structure and forces in science and I learned a lot of things like how different small parts of a building can affect the whole structure and how the material of the building can affect the structure. I did an experiment about the height of a building and how it would affect the steadiness. I realized that shorter building stands more steady than taller buildings in the same wind speed. I think I improved myself as a learner because I realized I should focus more on one thing about the topic than just search up the structure and write down everything. I did my research during class time to get them done before the deadline so I think it was okay. I still think that I need to improve myself by doing more scientific research than just searching up the topic.

How is recording the same and different compared to the original song? What were your reasons behind your decisions? 

The difference between the original song and my recording is the original one includes more different types of instrument like drums and more people singing in it but mine only includes drummer, piano, strumming and singing so it doesn’t sound as good as the original one. Also, mine includes ukulele in it so it sound a bit different even though many people plays this song with ukulele. Mine is also not that clear even I recorded it for more than 20 times and it’s still a bit not on time. Also I think I didn’t do the piano keyboard properly because I didn’t know ow to use it. I chose this song because it’s suitable to play with ukulele and it’s a good song which many people play with ukulele. It is also very soft and nice so I chose this song.

How did your music classes prepare you for this assignment? 

I practice a lot in music class and I can ask Mr O’ Toole everything I found difficult about. I can also practice ukulele with my friends which is nice and we can help each other on ukulele in class because we can’t bring the ukulele home. I should improve my time management so I can turn everything in on time. I should also improve my strumming by practicing more because i didn’t practice much to make it the best I could. I should be more responsible because I always turn in late. I think I have a lot to improve.

Discuss your playing in regards to; timing, note accuracy, rhythm accuracy. You MUST use correct musical terminology. 
I think my playing is not clear enough and it is too quiet. I should play it louder or put the microphone near to where it sounds. I should also play it more clear so people can hear it clearly and it will sound better. I didn’t add any drums or piano to it because it doesn’t sound good with them and people can hear clearly what I played and sang. I should also make the timing better because I just edit the strumming to make them fit and on time so I should practice more on ukulele. I should play the notes almost all at the same volume so it won’t be suddenly quiet or suddenly so loud. I played the melody for at least 11 times to make to sound good and I’m satisfied with that but I didn’t practice much for the strumming so it’s not that good and I only used one strumming but just copy and paste it so I don’t really like my strumming part. For the singing part, I recorded it for 28 times but it’s still not good so tried my best to record it even though it’s so quiet.
Discuss your overall understanding of GarageBand and it’s processes. Note down what you learned about Garageband’s capabilities and how this impacted your song. 
I can record and song after I learnt to use GarageBand now. I understand how to record in GarageBand so I can record.I learnt how to edit the song such as trimming it and flexing the notes so I can make the notes longer or shorter and it will be on time. I learnt to add ‘Musical Typing’ or drummers into it so you can add some background music or some different effects to make it sound better. You can also play a song with the ‘Musical Typing’ because it’s a piano keyboard. I learnt to use the same strumming and just copy and paste it so I don’t have to play them myself and keep failing. I also learnt to turn on the metronome and you can listen to it when you play the ukulele so you can play on time.
