Music – Project Genesis Proposal

What is the goal for your assignment and why? *
I would like to do a mashup as it is has really interested me last time we were doing it. However, this time I would like to put more variety of songs, and challenge myself and do something different. I would also try putting different instruments in order to make the music more interesting and has more layers.

 

Outline/Process (Steps) to Achieve Goal. *
In order to achieve my goal, I would need to be very careful when choosing the song. I would need to be more aware of the different types of songs. I would need to think out of the box and even try finding different genres. I would also need enough understanding of using the app used for this project, in order to put play different instruments in the app. I would also need to understand how to make a mash-up and understand what are the elements that make a good mash-up.

 

What criteria will you use to self assess this assignment? *
– The music has to be longer than 1.30 mins
– Use of a variety of music
– Use of different instruments

Music – Jazz – Final Composition

For this assignment, I changed a lot from the first draft compostition due to the comments the teacher gave me after it. I later noticed that my song for the draft was too short and needed to extend it, I also figured out that my song from the draft has no breaks that allows the player to breathe or rest. In this music, I tried correcting these mistakes, which might lead to a slight change of melody. This assignment was challenging as there are many complicated requirements that I needed to understand and learn. However, through them I learned more about jazz compositions as well as exploring and learning new techniques and music.

Discuss your practice routines and development on your instrument. *
Since it is my first time playing the clarinet, I started off with the basics. I played individual notes starting with the lower notes as it is relatively easy and later practiced with higher notes. Later, when I am more familiar with playing the notes, I would play the easier pieces, allowing myself to follow the band during practices. Afterwards, I would practice the parts that relatively hard. However, parts that are played really quickly and have complicated rhythm, I would try but usually cannot play during the band. I would also mark the notes that I cannot play properly and practice more on those parts. Overall, I think I have done my very best to play the clarinet.
How successful were you at your theory test? Discuss the concepts that you did not master. *
I think I did my best in the theory test. Although there is much more to improve, the score was acceptable. Although I have passed my theory test, I am still very unfamiliar with key signatures and scales. I don’t have sections that did not master but instead, most of my scores are deducted because of careless mistakes, such as forgetting to natural, flat or sharp the notes. I could have checked the answers before handing in the test paper, in order to make sure I don’t have any careless mistakes which will deduct my marks.
What are your strategies to improve results in the subsequent months? *
There are many ways to improve my results, for example revising earlier, so that I can ask questions during class when I am unsure with anything. This way there is more time to prepare and revise and ensure that I understand every part that we have learnt. I can also do more practice to minimize the risk of having careless mistakes during the test. I can either redo the worksheets that we did as homework as revision, or I can find more worksheets related to our test topics and do more practice.
How do you show the IB Learner Profile in the music class? *
I show inquirer in IB Learner Profile in music class. I asked questions when I am confused. Sometimes I will get confused with some of the theory and I would ask to teacher to repeat. I would also ask friends for help when I am confused, and we would discuss and figure out the solution. I also reflect on my work, showing the reflective in the IB Learner Profile. I would read my work and understand what to improve next time. If I have a chance to redo, I will also redo it in order to improve my score.
