In PA (performing arts), We are doing dance unit which we make our own dance with a group. With the dance, we are going to make a light painting. A light painting is made in a dark room and for this to work out, we need light to make the painting (Glow Sticks) and stick them onto your body. We need to take photographs and this will make the light painting. We will need a app to make the light painting. One app that you can also use is Light Bomber. At our school, we are focusing on patterns and shapes that we can make in the light painting.
We had a process to make our dance. First, we learnt how to draw the people in the drawing. Our teacher told us not to draw stick mans and not to draw too realistic that will take a hour to draw. She teached us a simple way to draw people. It was easier to see and it was really neat when she showed us. Using what we learnt in the first part, we used a storyboard to plan our ideas and bring them together. In the storyboard, we drew how the dance is shown and the important details can be written on the bottom of the drawing. When our group finished the storyboard, it was very neat and everyone could have understand it. When we finished the storyboard, we rehearsed with our group. We did it many times and as we practiced, we got better and better. Next class, we will be able to make the light painting using a app. I am very excited to see what our painting will look like when we finished.
From Wed, March 29 to Fri, March 31 all the grade 4 went camping at Treasure Island. We were separated into groups of 12 or 13 and we did activities that we cannot do at Hong Kong Island. We went to the beach, learnt about the ecosystems that is connected to our PYP, Sharing the planet.
What I really enjoyed about camp is that we could do activities that we normally don’t do, like going to a Wetland and study about the plants that live there and what can happen when the weather changes. I think the activity that I enjoyed the most is raft building Sandy shores because I liked it when we got to go to the ocean and played with the water.
An activity that I experienced for the first time was the Raft Building (picture on top) because we got to make our own raft and tried to use it in the ocean. Our raft did float and move, but it was very unstable. From what we built, we also learnt some ways to tie ropes. The materials we used is 4 to 5 ropes, 3 bamboo sticks and 3 tires.
I will remember when we had cold showers because it was very cold. I would also remember when we had Breakfast, Lunch and dinner at Mav’s because I liked the food there. There was pasta, cereal and other yummy food.
What I found challenging is when we had to sleep because I never slept in a sleeping bag. Sleeping bags are not very comfortable but can be very warm. It was warmer than the normal bed that I sleep in at home. When I came back from camp, it felt very comfortable when I got to sleep in a normal bed.
I learnt about the ecosystems and how to save the environment and nature. It was very fun because we got to do things that we don’t normally do in our daily lives. I learnt how to surf and learnt and played games that I don’t play or I didn’t know about. Hajime:)

Food chain is connected to the ecosystem because the food chain shows all the living things that eat each other. The Nourishment joins up to make the food chain and some of the animals depend on each other to survive. A example of a food chain may be like a plant plankton are eaten by the fish and and the fish is eaten by the bears near the river. If the shrimps goes out, the fish would go hungry and will eventually die, and if the population of the fish goes below way below the normal population, the bears would also get hungry. This can happen in the opposite way. If the bears go away, the the population of the fish would go higher than usual and the plankton will be eaten quicker.
There is another named the food web. The food web often combine to make food web many interconnected and overlapping chains. In a food web, there are three types of organisms. The Producers are plants and are all on the bottom of the food chain. They use photosynthesis to make their own food. Photosynthesis is the energy for the sun. There are three types of consumers in the world. The first one is Primary Consumers. Primary Consumers are sometimes named herbivores and they eat the producers like plants meaning the grass, flower, etc. There is also a secondary consumers and they are sometimes named Carnivores or Meat Eaters. They eat the primary consumers like deers, sheeps, cows, etc. Omnivores are animals that eat the Primary Consumers and the Secondary Consumers. Humans are also a Omnivores. Parasites are small insects that live on other animals and using the victim’s energy. For the decomposers are bacteria and fungi. It causes the mold but even better, it can break dead animals into reusable elements. It can also recycle the nutrients back to the food web.
I think that the most important things that we learnt this week is the filming techniques. We made a video (commercial) and we also used iMovie to rearranged the video. We also used some different kinds of shots. We made this video because we are going to make a commercial by a iPad and iMovie by ourselves. I chose to write this because it was related to our Unit of Inquiry and I am also a Digital Ambassadors so I should also remember these things to help other people in my class. We learnt about how to take care of these equipment, and how to use the equipment like the iPad’s and how to use iMovie. We also learnt about the Camera angles and when the camera angle is used (what feelings does it have). Hajime:)
We started a new unit for How We Express Ourselves (HWEO). The central idea is “People can create message to target and influence specific audiences”. It means people can use Social Media to communicate with other people. Social Media is like Whatsapp, Line, Skype, etc. People can also use other ways like making a commercial / advertisement to communicate to the community.
This picture on the top is the poster. Our poster is about the SPCA, telling people to go to this garage sell to help the puppies who are at the SPCA. Our target audience means people who might be interested about the garage sell. So our target audience is people who like puppies and might want to help the puppies.
The techniques that we used is colour because the colour made the words were clear and easier to see. We also used pictures to convince people to come to our garage sell to save the puppies. We put pictures that our happy so we can tell people what will happen to these puppies when they were saved. We put small details like the address and what time it starts and ends and all details(it is fake).
I think people will want to save the puppies because the pictures can convince them to buy the goods to save the puppies.
On Wednesday, January 11th, 2017, we performed a Spotlight based on the TV show, Amazing Race, But instead of the Amazing Race, We did an Amazing Musical Race.
The part it went well is that most people spoke clearly. I also think the transitions were smooth. I also think everybody tried to remember their lines.
I think what people can improve on is they should know when the other person is speaking or if you were the one who is speaking. The other part of what I didn’t like about is that some people were talking at the backstage. It might have been heard over to the audience. It was also weird when we were playing the Lion Sleeps Tonight, because some parts, we kind of messed up, but we formed up again to make it better.
I enjoyed when my classmates made the audience laugh. I think that was well done. I also liked when we were at the backstage. We made some mistakes, but I think the spotlight went really went well. I am looking forward to next year’s spotlight. Hajime:)
On Friday, Dec 9th and on Monday, Dec 12th, we did our morning meeting as usual but at the Green Roof !!! It was the first time having a morning meeting on the green roof. It was really fun to go outside and do morning meeting because the wind was very comfortable than the classroom. I felt free when we went to the green roof because there was no roof and the I was really relaxed than being inside the classroom. I think our class should go to the green roof more so our classmates can have a relaxed time every day.
Also on the last period of Friday, there was an assembly and we planned to get the Cup Of Good Choices. We really worked hard on getting it. When the assembly finished, the secret judge (Ms Glazier) said our class worked really hard on getting the Cup Of Good Choices so they gave us the Cup of Good Choices. We were the first on getting the Cup Of Good Choices in Grade 4.
On the December 1st, we did a challenge to make a boat and make it move across the basin. The boat needed to hold one marble. The boat also had to move by the wind. I was put into a group of three. We only had 15 minutes to make the boat. We used paper and cut them into pieces and we also used cardboard, tape and a stapler.
The first thing that went well is that it moved really quickly. But really, I think it didn’t really go well. Our group succeeded the challenge but some parts it didn’t go well. Firstly, the sail was tilted because the tape that held the sail wasn’t strong enough to hold the big large sail. Secondly, the boat almost sank because the water got into the cardboard on the bottom of the boat (as you can see from the picture). I found it difficult because there was only 15 minutes to create the boat. It was also hard because it also took time to decide what the design will be. I can improve on to our group’s boat by making the base of the boat bigger so the sail can be stable. We should have use the plastic bag to cover the cardboard. For this activity, I enjoyed looking at other group’s boats because it was really different from our design.
Last week on Friday (Nov 25, 2016), we had learning buddies. One person have one partner and you do things together. Last week, the first grade started a unit about Exploration. So the activity we did was exploring through the school. Students in first grade had one destination that they wanted to go to. My partner wanted to go to the 14th floor ( the top floor ). Other students chose to go to the Green Roof or other places. My partner also had to take pictures when going to the 14th floor like the real explores. They took pictures of the staircase and the sign on the staircase that says”14th floor”. My partner and I went to our class and also took some pictures there. They were really impressed with the computers because they didn’t have their own computers. They only had their own I-Pad. I think my partner was very excited for this activity because it is their choice to go anywhere around the school.
This picture on the top is a graph that I have created. My question that I asked to the students was “ What is your favourite sports that you like”. I collected the data by using a chart. The chart show the choices and how many students picked that choice. I have used tally marks because it was easy to count with it. I also wrote all the names of my class so I wouldn’t ask the same person again. When I asked a student, I cross their name. I sometimes forgot and had to remember who I asked.
When I finished asking all the students, I went to this website named “Create a Graph Classic” to create a graph. The students have to pick one of the choices; Soccer, Basketball, Hockey, Tennis and others. Soccer got 6, Basketball got 2, Hockey got 2, Tennis got 3, others got 11.
The scale was 11 and the range was 9. Most was others and least was Basketball and Hockey
