I felt that this week was a long and exciting week for me.
My proposal for my exhibition is coming soon next week, and I am getting sorted out of what I am going to share with the teachers. The topic that I am going to present is related to rockets because I have many wonders about the functions, connections and the causation of the rockets.
Our class also went on the field trip to a place called Oxfam, where we learned about inequality and how people living in China who has the farm residence. This is because people who have the farm residence has many limitations to work, home and family. In the presentation, we have heard that the people are treated unfairly and that some people actually suicide because of these problems.
I am also working on my proposal because I am going to have it next week. I am proposing for my exhibition so that I will be able to do this. I have been planning for over a month with information that I am going to share with the teacher. I am really excited.
Today, I set up 3 goals that I set up until the December break with a lot of learning strategies that I could use when learning at school and at home.
The first goal is to learn more and use advanced and interesting vocabs to make my essays and stories more interesting for readers to read them. Ways to achieve this goal is by finding words that I don’t understand the meaning of. Then I could search up the word on a dictionary or online on websites and I could then record the word on a piece of paper and the meaning near the word. I could use the paper to read and review the word(s) every day to remember it. I will be able to find the words on a book or on an article. I could write the meaning of it in a booklet which is named “Personal Glossary”. I can review it after or before I go to school. I will know that I have achieved this goal when I remember several words every month.
The second goal is the be more reflective by reviewing goals and work that I have done before because I usually don’t review my old work. A way to do this is by looking at notebooks and works that we have done. Next, I can look at the mistakes that I have made and review them. Then I can remember the mistake and make sure not to make the mistake again. I could look at math, Language and process books for reviewing. I could then find a person to help me check my work and then look at the mistakes to review them. I could review the work that I have done every 2 to 3 weeks so I could remember it.
The third goal is to be more creative by doing and writing work using more creative works. This is because I tend to be really simple and not put any creativity into the work. I could do this by first finding any kind of work that I have to do at school or at home. I will then try to figure out a way to do it more creatively. Next, I will hand the work to a teacher, parent or a friend, so I could get feedback comparing from the work that I have done before. I could find the work that I could do at home or at school. I could find a time where I could put a lot more effort into work. Then I can hear the feedback, and try to improve.
I wish these goals will have an impact on me when doing work at home or at school, and that I could be able to reflect, write and understand challenging words, and also be more creative when doing work.
Hello and Happy Chinese New Year (Happy Australia’s Day a bit late for that). Before the CNY break, we had a lot of things to do and one of the most important ones was the AIR (Artists in Residence). We had a Fashion Show and we had to make our own clothes (we had to still wear real clothes under) using recyclable stuff. Our group agreed to make a rugby T-shirt, but they didn’t show us any boys examples, so we had to create it by ourselves.
We made our T-shirt and pants using recycled paper. It was a very bad idea to use paper for the pants because it kept on ripping but the T-shirt was fine and very well looking. We wrote numbers on the back (just like real players) and we also put our company name (it’s not a real name) Hong Kong Rugby Sportswear.
We actually did really good on that project, but days before the fashion show (As you know) the Hong Kong Government shut down all schools because of influenza going on in Hong Kong. Our school is a private school, (I don’t know why) but they shut down our school too and our fashion show was canceled. We were very disappointed because we worked very hard on our clothes. We were still happy too because we had 1 more week added to our CNY holiday. I think this week was a very happy and disappointing week.
This is our first week in 2018!! This week was a very fun week. This week, we put legs on our robots. We put the legs on our robots because we will need it for our fashion show. With our class, we will have our robots in our fashion show and we are going to make a costume for our robots. BIG shout out to the Artists and Residence for helping us to make our clothes for the fashion show.
This picture on the top is a graph that I have created. My question that I asked to the students was “ What is your favourite sports that you like”. I collected the data by using a chart. The chart show the choices and how many students picked that choice. I have used tally marks because it was easy to count with it. I also wrote all the names of my class so I wouldn’t ask the same person again. When I asked a student, I cross their name. I sometimes forgot and had to remember who I asked.
When I finished asking all the students, I went to this website named “Create a Graph Classic” to create a graph. The students have to pick one of the choices; Soccer, Basketball, Hockey, Tennis and others. Soccer got 6, Basketball got 2, Hockey got 2, Tennis got 3, others got 11.
The scale was 11 and the range was 9. Most was others and least was Basketball and Hockey
Our class was really busy this week ( the last week ). We have been working on our assembly and also the robotics.
For the Assembly, the Central Idea for the Grade 4 was WWA ( who we are ) , People learn different things in various ways. That means people have many ways to learn one thing. For example, 2 students wanted to learn the multiplication. One student learned the multiplication by writing them on a piece of paper. That student is a verbal linguistic learner ( people who learn buy reading and writing ). The other student searched a video for multiplication learners. The student sang a multiplication song out loud. That student is a Musical learner ( A person who learn easily by singing, etc ). These words that describes a person is named “Multiple Intelligences”. Also when making our scripts, we were the first ones to present the assembly. It took me a long time because I had to also perform the French Horn ( instrument ).
Our class has been also working on our Robotics skills. We learned a lot of things like making the robot move, turn, beep the tones, draw/write on the LED screen and other cool coding skills. Next week we our going to have a dance off our robots.
