In our Unit of Inquiry, we are working a project (My project is the picture on the top). This is a peace flag that I have made. It was also my first project to use the sewing machine. I sewed most of my things using my hand. It was really cool to use the sewing machine. The sewing machine was really cool because it all moved my itself. I have only saw my mom using the sewing machine but this time I did it by myself. I have researched a lot of peace signs and other things related to peace. I have used cloth markers and also used felt and clothes. We made our backgrounds by dipping paint in our piece.
On Tuesday May 16th, We had our coding class. In coding class, we adding on to what we are doing on Challenge 2. In Challenge 2, we have to make a code that draws words. In my project, I have finished drawing a A, B, C, D, and O (This is the Link to the project). I am really looking forward to finishing my project for Challenge 2. At school, We are learning about the coordinates and other things that you might need for the code. It was really easy for me because I have done the same thing in a place where you learn how to code. Instead of making more words, I have been helping others to make their code better and also solve problems in their code. If I have more time, I would really like to make my codes better and make the words look realistic.
Overall, I think I have been helping others and our class has been cooperating and they are also curious about for the code.
On Tuesday, May 9th, Our learning buddies and other classes from Grade 1 performed a spotlight at the LLAC. I really think that the our buddies including the other classes did a amazing job at performing and showing what they learnt about. They have learnt about the the environment and how they can help to save nature. They told a story about villagers in india trying to help save the trees. My learning buddy really preformed well. He was really committed on what he was doing in the performance. They also used puppets for some parts of the story.
Overall, I think our learning buddies (including the other classes and my learning buddy) did a very good job on presenting their work by making a spotlight.
This week was a short week because there was Buddha’s day and Labour’s day, but we did many things.
The first thing that I want to show you is coding. On the last post, I think I posted a blog post of the tessellation. I really like coding, because I go to First coding to learn Java. We are using Scratch to code things. The picture on top is my tessellation. We are doing this because it is helping our mathematics and it is fun to use coding to make things. I chose to write about this because I like to do coding. I still knew a lot of Scratch coding, but I still learnt a lot because we don’t usually use so much math in First code.
The second thing is in Visual Arts. We learnt about Leonardo Da Vinci. We did it because we are learning about artist. We learnt about the mysteries of Mona Lisa. We also learnt he was an inventor too. I chose to write about this because I like to learn about the paintings that artists and what artist draw. I also like about the history of things, like paintings and invention.
Overall I had a great week by learning about these things
We used scratch to make a tessellation. The tessellation can be made forever but if it touches the edge, it ruins the tessellation. On the first time I just made a shape but I tried and tried and thinked and actually, I made the tessellation. The hardest part was to calculate the degrees and the steps to calculate. I used the clues that Ms Fung told us. I learnt about the codes that makes the code. Because I finished the challenge. I am trying to make arrangements to make it much more creative and much more fun.
This week in Visual art, we learnt about a famous painter named Matisse. He started painting when he was very young, but when he got older, he got cancer, meaning he couldn’t paint anymore, but he started making cutouts of pictures. He cut paper and he taped it on his canvas and also on walls of his house. We did this activity because to learn about famous painters and how the painters drew and the type of art he drew. I chose to write about this topic because it was very educational to me and it is fun to learn about other painters. First we watched a video on Youtube about his paintings and his cutouts and then we tried to use his idea and make cutouts of beautiful places or some students made random cutouts. It was very fun to make the cutouts and I felt very creative and enthusiastic about this learning of Matisse.
This week, the thing that I learnt the most is in Visual arts. We learnt about a famous painter, Vincent van Gogh. We learnt what paintings he drew and what was his life. I chose to write about this because I think it was very educational and very fun to learn about his life and his paintings. We watched a video about him and we also read a book about a story based on him. I learnt about his life and his life was very poor. He drew paintings that was very weird like the Starry Night. When he was alive, everybody was into realistic painting and sketches. But because he drew paintings that were different, people in those times didn’t like what he drew. He couldn’t sell most of his paintings, so I learnt that he had a very hard life.
On the week, we did the project for visual arts. We are all making different products and we have to make a Eco Friendly Packaging for the product. My product is a Bamboo water bottle and I want to make a simple packaging for the product.
I chose to talk about this project because I think it was very educational for me and it teached me a lot of things. The teacher also talked about the colours that represent the meaning of ECO. We have to make the packaging for the product. We also have to make your company’s name and the logo for it. The teacher teached us about how these packaging for the product affects our world and the pollution. Hajime:)
This week, the things that I have found interesting was the robot programming and the Woodworking with a famous woodworker named Wong Tin Yan. For Robotics, we used a robot so we can program it on the computer.
Firstly, about the robot, we learned and did complex steps to do the programming for the robot. We plugged in a USB and did some other steps. When we started programming we had to check so if the computer is sending signals to the robot. We programmed a simple thing that the robot can do. If it doesn’t do the thing that it told the computer, that means the computer and the robot would not move or do anything.
For the woodworking, we worked together with Me, Jacob, Jeffrey, Alec, Eden and Daphne worked as a team to build a house but we didn’t finish it. We learned and used tools to stick, cut and curve wood. We used a lot of tools to stick, cut and curve wood. We used a Japanese sword and a American sword.
