The day in Tokyo was very normal. It was very sunny and really peaceful where John’s family lived. John and his family moved from America to Japan because America had hurricanes and tornados that happens every year. John had finished his school and was at some store to buy some snacks. At school, they had a practice for preparing a Tsunami and a Earthquake. He learnt about how people can protect themselves in a Tsunami. He found a shop that sold candies and cakes.
As he went inside the shop, the shop started to wobble. Cakes and candies started to drop from the counter. First he thought a big truck was just passing by the shop but he heard a person that he learnt at school. “JISHIN!!!” (which meant Earthquake). He knew what he had to do, but he was too scared to do it. Then he saw a man who pushed him under a table. After he got pushed under the table, all the snacks and cakes were falling down he felt relieved that he got pushed. The signs and pictures on the wall were also falling down. About 5 minutes later, the Earthquake stopped, he was really relieved that the Earthquake has stopped. He went outside the shop, he saw most of the building has fallen. Some people were helping others to get out from the collapsed buildings. He saw other people running away from the shore. He didn’t know why they were doing that but a stranger came to me and told me something in Japanese. He didn’t know what he was talking about but He knew a word that he said “Tsunami”.
John didn’t run but walked away from shore, then people started screaming behind him. He looked behind him and he saw a massive wave of water coming up to him. The water carried big trees, cars and even some parts of buildings. I started sprinting away from shore up to the steep hill of a mountain. He still saw people trapped inside collapsed buildings. He wanted to help them but the Tsunami came closer and closer. When the Tsunami was about 10 meters close, Somebody on a motorbike caught him and put him behind the motorbike. He felt much safer because the motorbike was faster than the tsunami. After the motorbike stopped at the top of the mountain, he said thank you to the driver. He looked down at the city he was just at. All the buildings were collapsed and every place was flooded with water. He thought about his family, mom, dad and his little brother. He was really worried about his family, even his annoying little brother. A person gave him water, food and a sleeping bag. He couldn’t sleep for a long time and he saved the food for the next day.
It was 5am when he woke up. The sun was rising from the sea. He looked at the city again. The water was still there, he drank some water and ate some food. He saved some of the water and food for later. Around him some people were hurt and many other people were sleeping. John wondered where might his family be. In the water? Maybe in a campsite that might be safe? Or maybe somewhere he can’t even think of. Last time he saw his family at their house. John’s family all knew where to go when it was an emergency. Their family would all meet at the top of the hill of Shinagawa. It would be a long walk from here, so he asked a person who knew how to speak english. He asked the man if there is a transportation that leads to the top of the hill of Shinagawa. The man said “You can use one of the emergency boat to get around. I can ask a person who knows how to drive those stuff”. John and the man started to look for people who can drive the boat. It took ages looking for one, but the man finally found a Firefighter who knew how to drive the boat. John thanked the man and firefighter started the engine of the boat.
About 3pm, the boat reached the top of the hill. He got off the boat and ran to the meeting site. He saw a small campsite and there was about 10 to 12 people in the campsite. They were getting ready to eat dinner. The people in the campsite saw John, they came up to him. They said that their parents were there. John’s parents came out from the tent. John was very happy because all his parents were there. John’s family lived happily ever after.
I think the technology like iPhone and Mac made our life easier and better for human to live.
Firstly, technology can be used on communicating with other people. People can use Email or phone calls to communicate. These Email and phone calls takes seconds to communicate with other people. It can also be environmentally friendly because you don’t have to buy paper every time. You can also send photos without printing them out.
Secondly, you can use computer or technology to make things. For example, you can make a poster, blueprint, drawing, etc. These things may be faster made because you can type the words. It is easier to make because you don’t have to draw every picture or write every word in the poster or whatever you’re trying to make. If you erase and erase again and again, the mark might stay forever and it might not be neat.
Lastly, you can do research on technology. It has to be faster than books or other ways to research because for books, you have to look for the right book to research or the appropriate book to research on. Technology is very convenient than other ways to research because there is tons of websites that tells one topic. There are so many that you can get more info in a limited time.
Overall, I think people should use technology in their daily life to help them make their life a easier place
We started a new unit for How We Express Ourselves (HWEO). The central idea is “People can create message to target and influence specific audiences”. It means people can use Social Media to communicate with other people. Social Media is like Whatsapp, Line, Skype, etc. People can also use other ways like making a commercial / advertisement to communicate to the community.
This picture on the top is the poster. Our poster is about the SPCA, telling people to go to this garage sell to help the puppies who are at the SPCA. Our target audience means people who might be interested about the garage sell. So our target audience is people who like puppies and might want to help the puppies.
The techniques that we used is colour because the colour made the words were clear and easier to see. We also used pictures to convince people to come to our garage sell to save the puppies. We put pictures that our happy so we can tell people what will happen to these puppies when they were saved. We put small details like the address and what time it starts and ends and all details(it is fake).
I think people will want to save the puppies because the pictures can convince them to buy the goods to save the puppies.
Last week on Friday (Nov 25, 2016), we had learning buddies. One person have one partner and you do things together. Last week, the first grade started a unit about Exploration. So the activity we did was exploring through the school. Students in first grade had one destination that they wanted to go to. My partner wanted to go to the 14th floor ( the top floor ). Other students chose to go to the Green Roof or other places. My partner also had to take pictures when going to the 14th floor like the real explores. They took pictures of the staircase and the sign on the staircase that says”14th floor”. My partner and I went to our class and also took some pictures there. They were really impressed with the computers because they didn’t have their own computers. They only had their own I-Pad. I think my partner was very excited for this activity because it is their choice to go anywhere around the school.
This is a book that was named ‘Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing’. Our class have been reading this book from the beginning of the school year. We finished the book today (Friday, November 18th 2016). I really loved the story.
This book’s ending is when Fudge came back from the hospital after when Fudge swallowed Peters turtle, he came back with many presents. Peter was very upset and left alone when he saw that Fudge just got all the present of his own. Fudge didn’t even saying sorry to Peter but when his dad came back from work, his dad gave Peter a present. He put a box and when he put his hand inside the box, he felt a fluffy thing. When he opened the box, he saw a dog. He was really excited because he really wanted a dog.

Fudge ran all over the place because he just doesn’t like dolls. Peter’s mom said quietly “Those presents were all fake”. Peter’s mom and Peter started laughing while Fudge was running all over the place like a wild lion.
At the HK History Museum, We learned about the history of HK. Our class 4B focused on the WWII (Japanese occupation) and the Opium War that has shaped HK differently.
At the HK History Museum, I have learned that the name “Opium” came from the Mycotic, a type of drug in the past. The war started because a place named Xin’an county (China) was taken taken over by the Britain. During the war, the Chinese got strict about the trade so, Britain got angrier. The war started at 1840 and finished at 1842. The British won against the Chinese. After the war, some land was given to the British.
About the WWII (Japanese occupation ), WWII started because Hitler attacked Poland. HK was involved because Japan attacked the British Colony of HK. During the Japanese occupation, Japan took over HK for 3 years and 8 months. It started in 1938 and finished at 1945. The WWII finished with the atomic bomb that landed on Japan Nagasaki and Hiroshima. At HK, when the war finished, the post war and the HK was rebuilt.
This picture on the top is a graph that I have created. My question that I asked to the students was “ What is your favourite sports that you like”. I collected the data by using a chart. The chart show the choices and how many students picked that choice. I have used tally marks because it was easy to count with it. I also wrote all the names of my class so I wouldn’t ask the same person again. When I asked a student, I cross their name. I sometimes forgot and had to remember who I asked.
When I finished asking all the students, I went to this website named “Create a Graph Classic” to create a graph. The students have to pick one of the choices; Soccer, Basketball, Hockey, Tennis and others. Soccer got 6, Basketball got 2, Hockey got 2, Tennis got 3, others got 11.
The scale was 11 and the range was 9. Most was others and least was Basketball and Hockey
Long time ago at Africa, people from other countries was competing to take over the land. They had a meeting of what country will take how much land at Africa, but they the other country was still fighting. So each country, they sent a explorer to take over the land. Other counties did the same thing too. Countries tried to take over Africa with explores. Over 500 tribes from many other countries tried to take over the land of Africa. Some countries accomplished to take some part of Africa and some didn’t. The country who accomplished to take part of the land used it as mines to find diamonds and emerald. They also found a type of ore called Coltan. This ore helps make phones like I phone, I pad and Mac.
People around the world tried to get the land of Africa because at Africa, there is many resources than other lands and country. People around the world want to get more resources than other countries. So it means that the countries are competing each other.
This happened for many times and finally all the country now decided the space were equal. If you go to google maps and look at Africa, the most borders are straight.
Long time ago, some of the first robots were made. The robot helped people. Some of the robots are a water collector. When the electricity was invented, a robot that looked like a doll helped people writing words, sentences, and even a story.
Now, High-Tech robots do everything. Some robots help car company make cars faster. Unlike the old robots, they are automatically controlled. They are also reprogrammable so they can do many different things. Some robots are at Hospitals. They help the nurse and the doctor for when surgery is needed. Some robots work at your house. A automatic floor cleaner cleans the floor instead of your parents using the mop every week.
These robots were made because it is faster than the humans doing work. It is also easier because it can help other people. It can be also used at school for educating other students around the world.
This invention helped everyone and everything to get faster and easier for the humans around the world from babies to elderly.
This is a Reflective writing about the robotics. The picture is the half way through of my coding. The coding will make the robot dance. The coding that I did looked long but it isn’t really long when you see the robot dance. I wanted the robot to forward and backward, turn right and left, show images on the screen and beep tones. I think that if the robot does the thing that you wanted to do, I it would be great. The coding was so long that it was very slow at loading.
The thing that went well is that the robot did the thing that I wanted the robot to do. It was very cool and my friends and my classmates watched everyone’s robot. It was sometimes funny because the robots crashed each other.
The challenges that I had was not much because the blocks are the same thing as Scratch so it was kind of easy for me but I had some problems. When we finished the coding, it was very hard to save the work on your computer. It was also hard to know what to make the robot dance.
I felt very easy and happy about the coding and the movement of the robot. I felt really happy because it was very long and I was proud of it.
I knew how to code on Scratch but I learnt a new way of coding to move a robot. It was fun and exciting to learn the robot. It was also easy to learn how to code a robot and a computer. I also learned that the app that we used for coding was the company that made Scratch.
