French Recording Assessment

To be honest I think I could have done a lot better on this because first I didn’t practice a lot and second this was very rushed. Lianne and I also didn’t record this in a very good place and got distracted a lot in the making of this which slowed down our process. Another thing that kept me back was that the notes I took were wrong and I think that is mainly because I rush while taking notes so I’m not careful with my spelling or accents.

Unité 1 Parlez – Vous Français – Critères C et D à l’oral

Crit C Task:

  • interact in simple and rehearsed exchanges, using verbal languages
  • use basic phrases to communicate ideas, feelings and information on a variety of aspects of everyday topics
  • communicate with a sense of audience

Crit D Task:

  • speak using a basic range of vocabulary, grammatical structures and convention
  • use clear pronunciation and intonation
  • organise basic information and use a range of basic cohesive devices
  • use language to suit the context of introducing yourself

Crit C Grade: 5/8

Crit D grade: 4/8

Some problems I have are with my S’s at the end of my words and pronunciation in general. Other problems are grammar because the notes I took sometimes missed words or letters in them, plus when typing the script Grammarly kept interrupting and changing our words. For time management we did okay, we got distracted a lot but luckily got the work done in the end. As for the work ethic of my partner, I think I worked pretty well with her it’s just that our lack of French knowledge stopped us from really doing much and instead got us distracted a lot.

What did I learn about myself?

I honestly don’t think I learnt anything about myself other than the fact I suck at languages because I have a horrible memory.

Activist Speech

During February we all had to do an activist speech. Now I’m doing my speech about student suicide from academic and parents pressure. My main purpose was to raise awareness of it and convince other parents or teachers to stop using strategies that might discourage their students/kids. 

For me I felt that I had spent a lot of time and thought into my writing while not so much in my speaking, that’s why I’m not so confident that I passed the criteria for speaking. What I thought was good was the conclusion, I really liked how I had phrased the words. 2 things I could do better is when speaking don’t speak too fast and add pauses, also to speak with more emotion.

Thrilling Camp Adventures


November 27, 2018, the whole entire 6th grade had gone to Sai Kung to go camping for 4 days and 3 nights with Outward Bound. We were put into groups before we arrived at Sai Kung, my group consisted of; Estelle, Caitlyn, Lauren, Ashlyn, Maddie, Ryder, Jordan and Oliver. Our teacher was Mr Brodie We also got to meet our instructors.

The first day we all got to know each other so that we could trust each other more, therefore when doing activities together we wouldn’t be as wary knowing we could trust each other. To get to know each other we had played some fun games and even though I thought I already knew enough about them I learnt even more about at camp. After we got to know each other a little better we went to do some practising for jetty jumping for the next day just for some safety practising. We went through it kinda slow because my groupmates kept on interrupting by commenting on everything. Then we each went to our dorm buildings to have a quick rinse before lunch, the girls and the boys have separated dorm buildings. Once we had a quick rinse we all went to lunch. Before we ate we would have a comment on how we did so far and then we would have a moment of silence. Then we each served each dish onto each other’s plates and ate. We joked and laughed while eating, we were kinda extra loud. We continued to do some more activities, activities that involved lots of trust and courage. We did pretty well though when doing some activities we would sometimes leave other people out so we need to work on that. For encouraging each other we did pretty well because sometimes we were scared to climb (we were doing climbing activities) the other teammates would encourage them to keep on going. Once that was done we went to the dining hall to go eat dinner, repeating the process we did for lunch we just ate and talked. We then went to the base and played a game with all the other groups, well it was more of a competition. My team was placed 2nd but we were close to first, we just needed one more point, though that didn’t bring us down. Before we slept we talked about what we did good and what we could improve, we agreed that we need to start listening and respecting others more.

The second day we were going to do water activities. The first activity we did was dragon boating. We as a team started to build the dragon boat by tying it all together, of course before our instructors had already told us how to. Once it was built we started rowing, we needed to be in sync to row so Oliver took on the role of leadership and started to shout when we needed to row by screaming “1,2,3,4” over and over again. It definitely helped increase our speed, so much that we got to visit a beach and explore it for a while, collecting trash while exploring before heading to our original destination. At the original destination we saw the other groups and had lunch there, we made sandwiches for lunch. Done with lunch we went to discover this island we went to, apparently it has a salt farm. The island was pretty empty as not a lot of people lived on it. After exploring we went back to our dragon boat and continued rowing. We were challenged to beat a record of 15 minutes to get back to base by our instructors, we rowed as fast as we could and by the time we got to base it had been 15 minutes, we didn’t exactly beat the record but at least we matched up with it. Then afterwards we walked over to somewhere to do the actual jetty jumping. Every time one of us jumped we congratulated them and cheered on the next. Then we went to shower at the dorms and packed all our stuff to go camping. We met outside of the main hall then split up from there. Jordan, Estelle and I stayed to make dinner at a place near the boy’s dorm while the rest went to the campsite to set up the tents and put our stuff there. Then the people who were at the campsite went to go to us 3 and ate dinner. After we cleaned our dishes and washed the plates, though the boys didn’t clean a lot and Maddie cleaned a lot of the dishes for them, so it was kinda unfair. We then all went to the campsite and talk again about what we did good and what we did not so good, this time agreeing that we were pretty encouraging and worked well as a team though not so good at working quickly. We then went to sleep in our tents, my tent mates for that night were Estelle and Caitlyn.

Day 3 we all packed the tents and our stuff, went to breakfast at the dining hall and quickly went to sort all our stuff up. We needed to sort our stuff to make sure we bring the right materials for the place we were going considering that it was pretty far. Once done we started going to our destination, first, we took a bus to a park, there we met a new instructor who would guide us. To get to our new campsite we needed to hike there so we split into leaders that would lead apart each time. Ryder, Oliver and Jordan were the leaders first, they went a little fast for my pace and some others too so we got tired really easily and had many breaks. Once their turn was done we had Caitlyn and Lauren lead, they went at a normal pace so we didn’t need any breaks. We stopped at a place to go grab lunch, once again we had sandwiches. Then after lunch, it was me and Estelle’s turn to lead, we kinda went a little fast so I do regret that. Along the way, Lauren sprained her ankle but luckily Caitlyn was there to take care of her, Caitlyn and Lauren ended up leading to create a steady pace. Though Estelle felt it was a little too slow so she went ahead first. We stopped for a break so that Ashlyn and Maddie could lead, they went at a steady pace so everyone was satisfied. They lead us to our campsite, there we unloaded everything and relaxed or play for a while. Once the stuff was unloaded we set everything up while Oliver, Maddie and Caitlyn began to cook. We had dinner and cleaned up the dishes, this time everyone did their own fair share. Then we went to have smores and there was where we handed out awards, Caitlyn, Maddie, Lauren Oliver had received an award. Done with smores we went to sleep in our tents, my tent mates this time were Lauren and Caitlyn.

The fourth day… End of camp, we packed our stuff and had some quick breakfast. We walked over to a bus stop to get picked up by a bus to go back to base. There we had some quick lunch and review over the whole thing. I personally think we did pretty well as a team and trusted each other a lot now, the camp had definitely gotten all of us together and taught us trust. Lunch came to an end and we had to leave, a lot of people were sad to leave but at the same time glad to head home. Saying goodbye to our instructors we headed onto the bus back to school.

The camp was an exciting experience, I had some funny teammates that I learnt to trust and gained more respect towards them. I think we all had a positive and happy time there even though there were a few outbreaks they were solved quickly. I guess in total is that… The camp was fun.    

Week 1 Reflection in Class 6A

I feel that we were very productive and efficient in class this week. We could definitely work on our listening and being more respectful to others. I’m glad that I had a lot of chances to work with others as I feel I do better in groups, I’m also glad that we had chances to brainstorm ideas and possibly actually work on it. The games we had played in class were very fun and helped me to remember everyone’s names, not only that but I also got a chance to learn more about everyone else. I like how we get a lot of freedom in our choice of learning because it helps a lot with my thinking process (Such as being able to listen to music whilst working).

My favourite games we played in class were probably the chair game and splat. The chair game because it was exciting wanting to know how this would turn out and helps develop our trust in each other. Splat because it was funny watching how everyone’s reactions, it also helped me remember people’s name.

The projects that I liked working on the most were murder mystery and the ‘How do we Learn?’ assignment. I liked playing murder mystery because it challenged me and my teammates brain, I also particularly love mysteries and puzzles. The ‘How do we Learn’ project was fun because I could let my imagination wild as we were writing stories about fictional characters, also if I had a writer’s block my teammates would come to me and suggest ideas.

This week I didn’t really participate in class so I would like to work on it next week. I would like to participate in more class discussions and in our class games.


That’s right people I jumped off of a pier! but… I don’t have any photos.I did jump off of a pier though! I really did!

Anyways now that I have attracted your attention I can finally get on with the real story. Basically, the story starts off with the camp. The whole grade went camping and let me tell you it was chaos getting on the buses to arrive at our destination. We were going to stay at camp for 3 days and 2 nights. Before we went camping though I was put into teams or groups however you’d like to say but I was put into team 2 with a bunch of people but they don’t matter because the main people you need to know are Venita and Caitlyn because they were the people sleeping with me in a tent. Now my thought of camp was horrible. I thought that there would be only one toilet and it would look like Shrek’s one stall toilet.

I also thought that the food we were eating was going to be all vegan like and if you know me in person then you would know I’m more like a T-rex, I like to eat loads of meat. Surprisingly when we got there I was amazed, the toilets and shower rooms weren’t one stall toilets and they actually had lots of space. The food we got wasn’t vegan either so I was pretty relieved. Camp definitely met my standards.

Our group activities at the camp were run by our two councillors, Barry and Tom. We played a lot of splat with them and of course, I was terrible at it.Anyways after lunch, my group got changed into our bathing suits and went to the docks to go kayaking. I’ve done kayaking before but not as professional as it was at camp therefore when I was going to go kayaking I was really confident and hyped but when we arrived and did the actual thing I very quickly got tired and exhausted from paddling even though we’ve only been kayaking for like 10 minutes. After kayaking, we were all very exhausted so Barry gave us all either a fig bar or a brownie bar. Later on, after we were all finished with our break we went to the piers to go raft building.There we met this guy called Nino and he said that we had to build a raft that would float and could fit 6 people, we also had very limited. When he left we all started thinking of what shapes we should make our raft, some people chose square while others chose triangle. I decided to go with triangle because fun fact a triangle is the strongest shape. We had tons of arguments but in the end, we all decided we would choose triangle as our shape.

Now when we decided to do a typhoon test our raft was a little bit shaky so I came up with the idea to add a base underneath so that it would be more stable. After we were done adding the base our raft was much more stable. We decided to test our raft out in the ocean and my group was split into two more groups which would take turns testing out the raft. My group went first to test out the raft and we had 4 paddlers including me. It was super fun to test out our raft and not to brag but I think my team had the fastest raft. Now we did soooo many other activities but this post would be way too long if I add them all so I’m just going to wrap this up. Overall I think the camp was great, sure I had my ups and downs there but it was definitely a fun experience.(Except for the mosquito bites).

In camp, I definitely, I also feel that I have become a better communicator because when we were building our raft we all had to work together and share ideas and I felt that I contributed a lot of my own ideas. Now I feel like I understand more about nature and the wilderness.Next time if I do go camping again I would change my attitude towards it instead of moaning every single day about my mosquito bites and the weather.

Goal Setting

Hold up! before you read this post I just wanna tell you that this is my English goal setting not my Chinese if any of you were wondering. Anyways continue on!


Hi, guys so awhile ago I had a 3-way goal setting with me, my teacher and my mom.(Basically a meeting with my teacher, my mother/father and I).  During the meeting, we talked about my weaknesses and strengths and what I should maybe improve on. So we’re basically deciding my goals that I should work on this year. This year (unlike the other years) I chose very specific goals for myself. If you’d like to know more then click here to go to my Red Binder. If you do look at the document then you will notice that there is something called weekly reflection. It’s how we share how we worked on our goal this week so that our teacher will have evidence of us working on our goal.  Our learning review for our goal is on January the 19th where our parents will come back and sit with us and our teachers to review our goal.

Readers don’t worry! there’s not going to be a group of doves who are evolved and are really smart who might take over the word! it’s nothing like that.It’s just this video i’m going to ask people about their perspectives towards it!

The Video:

Our class assignment was to see different peoples perspective towards an advertisement.(that is why I needed to ask people about their perspective toward this video).We were supposed to work in pairs so I worked with Samantha to see peoples perspective towards Dove Evolution.The whole class was to make a survey to ask different people.This is how our survey looks like.

Only 6 people took there time to fill in our survey.
4 of them were 9-12 years old and 2 of them were over 50 years old.
If you were over 50 years old then you would have thought that the video was funny and educational.You would thinks it’s funny and educational because the video shows how technology can change the model and it can be such a big difference after you put make up and change your face.
If you were a child you would have thought that the video was educational,weird and disgusting.You would’ve thought the video was weird,educational and disgusting because it means adverts aren’t real and because they stretch the model’s face.
If you were over 50 then you thought this video was targeted to young adults,adults and senior citizens.
If you were 9-12 then you thought this video was targeted to teenagers,young adults and adults.
Some people thought the meaning of this video was so they could get people to buy their products while others thought that the meaning of this video was to show how fake advertisements actually are.
Most people thought the creators were successful in spreading their message,but some people think they are not.
The people who said that the message was successfully spread said the reason was … It shows you can be as pretty as a model if you use their product and they recorded the process of making an advert.
The people who said that the message was not successfully spread said the reason was … the audience might not like how the creators created the video and it does not make it clear that they are trying to promote a fashion brand.
