Chinese Culture Center Beam Design 弘汉轩横梁设计


Hello! This is my beam design. We had our grade 6 celebration yesterday, I was really proud of myself because my beam design was one of the finalists. My beam design has yin and yang fish, lucky clouds and water. Yin and yang have the colours black and white, it represents balance. Fish means prosperity. The water is blue. I drew water because it is one of the five Chinese elements.


Exhibition is over!

I could never imagine myself actually getting through PYP exhibition. It has been a really tough, long journey. I have learnt a lot- not just about graphic design, but also about myself.

I feel I showed a lot of grit and perseverance during my learning and process. I learned that I can’t do it all and it doesn’t need to be perfect all the time. Sometimes, you need to have something than nothing at all. I am really proud of what I have accomplished during this learning process though.

During the Exhibition, Sometimes I got asked some confusing or hard questions but I managed to be able to answer confidently.

Exhibition- Learning Cohorts

I’m not sure how the first Learning Cohort Group made me feel, it didn’t seem that useful to me. Our first meeting was alright, but I think we were struggling to get our essential agreements done though. I feel I still don’t know everybody’s exhibition purpose.

Poverty in Hong Kong

I feel like I used a lot of emphasis on my speech. Next time, I think I should refer less to my script.

2018- First week back!

This week was the first day back from winter break, we started our new unit called Who We Are. The central idea is “throughout life people experience change for different reasons.” We did a lot of inquiring and learning about our body. We also learnt about topic sentences and how to find the topic and controlling ideas in sentences, paragraphs or articles.

Field Trip to Asbury

On Friday, a few classes, including mine went to Asbury for a field trip. Asbury is an organisation that helps people that are living in subdivided homes in Hong Kong. When we got there, a man talked about subdivided homes, He new a lot about it because he was actually living in a industrial building. He said, there were no toilets and a space to cook his meals, so he ate outside and walked to public toilets. After that, we were in groups and had a instructor each to guide us where to go, to buy toilet paper and food and lead us to the apartments where the poor families lived. When we got to their home, we gave the mother all the stuff from the market. She was very thankful, we saw one of her children, he was a five year old boy that was playing a game on her phone. She had 3 more children who were at school, the home was very small.

3. Is it available to place all the above items in subdivided unit?
– no, because the electrical appliances might explode
4. Imagine that if you live in the subdivided unit, how to make use of the
space to place those kinds of items? What is your tradeoff?

– I would only buy the most needed items and make things out of hand, like pillows, blankets and clothes

5. What are the differences between your home and the subdivided unit?
-There is little space to put things and you could hurt yourself easily, compared to normal apartments
6. How do you feel about this visiting experience?

– I think it was a really fun field trip to experience to have
7. What would you do to serve our community to be a better place?
– I would take action and go to other subdivided units and do the samething

我经常用语言, 写留言给别人, 写文字,和画图画和别人交流。

3. 你可以怎么负责任地和别人交流?

当我们交流的时候, 我们要听别人说话。 当我们说话的时候, 我们要想一想我们说得对不对和是不是真的。

我和别人交流的时候, 我是一个负责任的孩子。

Grade 5 Camp!

Hi, Last week, grade 5 went to the APA (Asia Pacific Adventure) camp for 3 days.

  1. Have you done a similar kind of camp in the past (earlier in the year or in a previous grade ;in school or out of school)?

Back in May, when I was in grade 4 we also went to a different camp called Treasure Island and did similar activities, but this year we only spent one night in the tent and the other in a dorm with 8 people.

2. How do you feel about this Camp? What parts of it do particularly like? Dislike? what did/do you about camp?

I loved camp, it was really fun spending time with my friends in the dorm, I also really liked pier jumping and bouldering (climbing boulders, like rock climbing)

3. In what ways was your activities or process similar?

Everyone was separating into 11 groups (about 12 people per group) depending on tent mates. Around 1-2 groups were doing different activities than other groups at the same time

4. what’s the one thing that you have seen in your classmates’ activities or process that you would like to try in your next process?

We did the same activities and process, so I would change nothing.

Goal Setting

On Monday,  I came up with 3 goals for the whole week. My 1st goal was a learning goal: I wanted to focus on listening to my teacher instead of playing with paper, my second goal was a personal goal: I wanted to practice my piano homework more often and my last goal was a relationship goal: I wanted to play with my little sister a bit more.
