Today we went to the Remembrance Day Ceremony. When I went into the classroom I saw the paper poppies. I figured out how to put the poppy on myself but it ended up on the right side. Then someone helped me put it in the middle.
We went to the Remembrance Day because we wanted to appreciate soldiers in the war that fought for Canada. Many different countries all over the world are still celebrating Remembrance Day.
To me Remembrance Day means a day to appreciate all the soldiers that fought in all the wars like WW1, WW2 and many different wars.
At the end of the Ceremony, we could applaud for the staff that helped.
On Thursday, we went on a field trip. I didn’t get much information but we found out about the Opium war between China and England because they wanted to fight for HK. We learned about the Japanese Occupation of HK.
For the Opium War, the way it was caused was by England shipped opium to China, but then they suddenly they felt like they were too obsessed with opium that they would throw it out, so one person ordered them to throw all the opium out. Then China said that they didn’t like England’s things. So that caused the Opium War. We found out that England won the first Opium war. It started in 1839 and ended in 1842. But they could only get HK for 99 years then they have to return it to China. But in the 2nd war China won over HK. The start of the 2nd Opium war was from 1856 to 1860. We also found out that opium is like a ore or people that use it for smoking. I didn’t think that opium was for smoking cause it sounds like a ore to me.
I didn’t really find out about the Japanese Occupation of HK because we went there last and it was almost time for lunch. I still found out that they were also battling HK. We found out that there was a bit of a fire in HK. They still fought for it. We did not find out who won. I think China won cause right now HK is in China.
I think that the History Museum is quite interesting. It was nice to know what happened in the Opium War and who won it. It was also nice to know how Japan and China fought for HK.
The seminar I chose to write about is How History Changed My Life. Here is what Ms. Mumford told us.
When Ms. Mumford Started school, she thought that school didn’t make sense because she couldn’t spell. She also didn’t memorise the numbers. So, Ms Mumford’s brother helped her, then, she found a way to memorise the alphabet and numbers. For the numbers, she made them have different personalities. For the letters, she made them have a story.
At the end, she ended up learning history. She learned about dudes who changed religions, and people who fought for human rights.
That happened to let her memorise things and to help people in need.
It affected the world by her becoming a teacher and helping HK. And, to help people in need.
For my 2nd seminar, I chose Ancient Greek Food. Here is what Joyce and Beni (Presenters) shared with us.
Greek food is really healthy, they eat lots of wheat and bread, they eat lentils, grapes and vegetables. When Greek people eat dinner, the fruit is on the side and the vegetables are the main food. The one thing Greek people don’t eat is red meat. Like chicken or animal meat.
This happened cause there’s too much consumption of wine and too much salt in other food. And it protects you from Alzheimer and other diseases.
Greek food is better because Chinese Food has too much oil. It affected the world by protecting people against Alzheimer and diseases.
During the seminars, I went to the Mark Zuckerberg seminar with Ms. Laura. She told us that he was actually the co – founder of Facebook. His friend was the owner, but eventually Mark Zuckerberg took over.
Mark accidentally created Facebook. He did when he was in university. He was messing around with codes. Then, Facebook was created in 2004.
If Facebook wasn’t created, you wouldn’t be able to donate for charities, you wouldn’t be able to share thoughts, or even recipes or shortcuts for things, you can also bring people together, share political ideas like how to vote wisely, and people very far away can communicate. This is why Facebook is good.
It affected the world by helping people in need, and selling things in a easier way. Like you wanna sell a table for $2000, so you ship the table or you take it all the way to the person’s house and the guy who wants it pays you.
Why I liked it
I really enjoyed this seminar because I don’t use Facebook and I want to find out about it. I thought he was the founder not co-founder of Facebook.
