The IB English Language A: Language and Literature course develops skills of textual analysis.  A study of the formal structures of a text is combined with an exploration of the way the use of formal elements and our understanding of their meaning is affected by those reading practices that are culturally defined.  Students will engage in creative and critical thinking and refine both their writing and oral communication skills.  Students will study fiction, poetry, drama and non-fiction from a variety of periods and settings.  Students will respond both personally and critically to familiar and unfamiliar texts.  They will improve their ability to formulate ideas and support them with persuasive support.
