Biology

Biology Higher Level: SBI3U and SBI4U and Seminar

Biology Standard Level: SBI3U and SBI4U

This course will help students develop a broad understanding of the concepts and processes that allow living organisms to survive as individuals and communities. The curriculum will include content in the areas of cellular organization and biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology, evolution and natural selection, animal and plant physiology and ecology. Four intertwined and unifying themes will form threads and webs throughout the curriculum: the relationships between structure and function; the contrasts between the universality and diversity in living systems; the importance of homeostasis and equilibrium in the function of biological systems; and the overlying theme of evolution and change as the driving force in determining the strategies employed by biological systems to exist successfully.
