By January 22, 2018News & Updates

CDNIS welcomed teams from Singapore, Myanmar, Macao, China and Hong Kong to the 6 Nations Timberwolves Tournament this weekend. 10 Teams (6 Boys and 4 Girls) played in an intense and close competition, culminating on Sunday morning in the playoffs. Our Girls U20 team overcame injuries to key players to progress and improve throughout the tournament.  They qualified second from round robin play but found themselves down by 14 points in the first half of the semi-final v Shekou international School.  An incredible comeback in the second half meant the TWolves qualified for the Championship Game on Sunday v TIS from Macao; this was a team the TWolves had lost to in the first game of the competition. A thrilling final was tied up 33-33 at full time meaning we went into Overtime!  The atmosphere in the gym was incredible and the home gym support helped the CDNIS Girls to a 37-35 win and the 6 Nations Championship trophy.

Our CDNIS Boys team had good wins over YIS from Myanmar and TIS from Macao.  We had two battles with CAIS and just went down in the Semi Final which meant we played SIS from China,  in the 3rd place Trophy game on Sunday morning. The CDNIS Boys showed their improvement made through the tournament to win the game and take the 3rd Place trophy.
The experiences and games enjoyed during the 3 Day tournament is great preparation for the SEASAC tournament next weekend in Thailand.  Our teams bring together Grade 9-12 students and it is exciting to see the combinations developing between players and the coach’s masterplans coming to fruition!
Tournaments like the 6 Nations are a result of a lot of hard work by a lot of people.  Sincere thanks to the Athletics Council, the CDNIS Media Team for providing a high quality stream and images of the event, and the Athletics Department for making the tournament possible. Big thanks also to Coaches Riverin, Wright and Young for all the time, expertise and enthusiasm they put into their teams.
