Please see below the Weekly Report from the Athletics Council plus plan for Season 2 Try Out Schedule Nov 6-10.

Our CDNIS Boys and Girls Volleyball Teams had fantastic touring experiences over the weekend.
The B20 Team travelled to Jeju Island, South Korea and played in a Volleyball Tournament against a variety of strong International Schools. The Boys did very well going through Pool play undefeated to qualify for the semi finals on Saturday. The Semi Final on Saturday was a great match with the TWolves winning 3-0. They then played a tough final winning 3-1. The Timberwolves became the inaugural Champions of the Jeju Invitational. Congratulations to Isaac, Ryan and Sean who were named Tournament MVP’s. Big Thanks to Coaches Steiner and Po for leading the first ever CDNIS Volleyball team tour to Korea.
Our Girls U20 team had a fantastic sporting and cultural exchange in Tokyo, Japan. The standard of play at the Yujo Tournament at ASIJ is exceptionally high – probably even higher than SEASAC – and every player improved and learnt a lot as we played 8 Games over 3 days. It was also a great team bonding experience which included sleeping on Futons in the ASIJ Gym, shopping excursions to Harajuku, lots of Japanese food and making friends with players from schools in Japan, American Base schools and SEASAC schools. The championship game on Saturday night was an incredible experience with the gym full of very passionate supporters; this gives us something to aim for in the future as we continue to build spirit and support of our TWolves programmes. The CDNIS Team finished 9th in the Yujo Tournament.
Sincere thanks to Coach Cheung and to AT Ngan for leading this tour and making this great experience possible.
CDNIS welcomed Penny Heyns to CDNIS Oct 9-10. Penny is an incredible swimmer who went to the ’92, ’96 and ’00 Olympic Games. In 1996 Penny became the first swimmer ever to win both the 100m and 200m Gold Medal in Breaststroke. She also won the Bronze medal in 2000 and held 13 World Records. Whilst this success could have been the focus of a visit, it was not. Instead, Penny spoke to all CDNIS Coaches and US TWovles athletes about resilience, goal setting and mental toughness. Everyone who attended these presentations enjoyed Penny’s story and had some great takeaways to apply to sport and to life. Some common threads were “making the most of your talents” “Make a goal, make a plan and write it down” “making a lasting difference for the greater good” and “Success is measured by achieving growth and personal best”.
The students also enjoyed interacting with Penny after the sessions. Many students – and teachers – enjoyed seeing Penny’s Olympic Medals and even trying them on!
Penny is a fantastic role model for our athletes and for all our students. She spoke of the process of moving to both the US and Canada for College, of having clearly defined goals and principles to live by and for making best decisions not based on emotions.
Penny also spent two full days with our Swim team. 24 of our best athletes and Swimmers enjoyed intense training, stroke analysis and workshops focussed on improving their PBs and Swim experience.
This incredible experience was made possible by the 2016-17 Annual Fund. Thank you to all who contributed to the successful visit.
