Over the weekend CDNIS had four Volleyball Teams involved in International Tournaments.
We also hosted a very successful 16 team Timberwolves International Invitational Event. Bringing alive CDNIS’ mission of local and global engagement, teams from Myanmar, China and the best Local (DBS, DGS, Pui Ying and Salesian School) and the best International School teams from Hong Kong were invited to compete at CDNIS. This meant a wonderful weekend of Volleyball was hosted in our gym. The Boys Champion team for 2017 was Diocesan Boys School (HK) and the Girls Champion Team was Diocesan Girls School (HK).

The CDNIS Girls U20 team are mid-season and have a major competition in Japan early October, SEASAC in Singapore late October and plan to defend their ISSFHK Championship early November. Playing 6 games in 3 days against top opposition was perfect preparation for these upcoming events and the girls can be proud of the way they fought hard through the tournament, to make the final on Sunday. The team enjoyed wins against ICS (HK) ISM (Myanmar) SIS (Shekou) and YIS (Myanmar). They went down to a very good DGS in the final. Tournament MVP was Ashley.
The CDNIS Boys U20 team played in a very even tournament with 3 of their 6 games going to 3 sets. It was great to see their ability to perform in pressure situations develop and their win in a tight Plate Final on Sunday sets the team up well for their upcoming trip to Korea for an international VB event. They then hope to defend their SEASAC title in Singapore before returning home to HK to defend their ISSFHK title. This team is developing every week and new leaders are emerging. Congratulations to Issac who was named Tournament MVP.
The CDNIS Girls U16 team had the opportunity to play in the U20 Timberwolves Tournament after the late withdrawal of a team from Vietnam. This was an opportunity the team grabbed with both hands and it is safe to say the future of Girls Volleyball looks strong as this young team recorded 2 wins against very strong U20 opposition and finished on Sunday with a win v the U20 CAIS team. Solid play and great leadership earned Kodi Tupper the Tournament MVP award.
The CDNIS Boys U16 Team represented the school at the annual China Cup Event hosted at HKIS. The boys had fantastic wins over RCHK and HKIS to make the final, fighting hard but going down in three sets v SAS from Shanghai. This was a great opportunity to experience international competition and will prepare the Boys well for the business end of their season.
The teams are lucky to have incredible Coaches to support and lead them in their tournaments; to Coaches Clouthier, Cheung, Steiner, Po, Schmalenberg and Man, thanks for the time and effort you put into your teams.
Hosting events like the Timberwolves Invitational reminds us all how lucky we are to be part of the CDNIS community. To host a tournament like this requires a considerable contribution from many people. It’s a pleasure to work with the Athletics Department team, the Athletics Council, the Media team, FAC Man and to have the support of the Senior Admin; it is a true team effort to successfully host an event like this. The teams also really appreciated the support of friends, family, teachers and Senior Admin throughout the weekend, thanks for being there to participate, enjoy and contribute to the success.
