CDNIS hosted a massive 24 team Volleyball Tournament over 3 days and 56 hours (over 3 courts) of game time.
This is our biggest ever Volleyball tournament and also the highest level of play hosted at CDNIS. Four CDNIS teams were involved in this open tournament; our B20 and G20 teams and our G16/B16 teams entered for tournament experience too.
The G20 team were in dominant form progressing through to the Semi finals undefeated. They faced a challenging game v HKIS in the Semi and prevailed in three tough sets. They continued this form into the final, beating International School Myanmar to win the championship. The team is developing into a strong team, playing a new style of Volleyball and hoping to take their game to the next level as they prepare for both the ISSFHK Championships (defending champions) and SEASAC tournament (2015 runners up) in early November. These events are also the goals of our Boys team. Our Boys team may turn out to be the best CDNIS Boys team we have had for some time. They have great players across the court and are committed to playing their bench, which strengthens the squad. This was shown in a number of games in the tournament where the full bench came on in the second set and maintained the momentum and intensity created by the starters. The Championship final, v Diocesan Boys School, was a great chance for our team to measure themselves against one of the strongest Hong Kong schools. The boys lost 0-2 but some of the rallies had the packed gym roaring with excitement as Volleyball at this level has not been seen in our Gyms before. It was not just the DBS boys hitting and saving ferociously, our boys matched it with the top team before DBS pulled away in the second set to claim their first Timberwolves Championship. The U16 teams can also be very proud of their development over the weekend and they are both much stronger teams for the experience as they prepare for their October trip to Vietnam and for their ISSFHK U16 championships.
Thanks to Coaches Stone, Cameron, Steiner, Po and Cheung for their massive commitment to their teams over the weekend and to the Athletics Staff for hosting this successful event.
Not many schools could have hosted a tournament of this magnitude so successfully and I am proud and privileged to work at a school that offers such great support to both the Volleyball programme and the wider sports programme.
Our Athletics Council and Photography Team have collected these photos from the tournament.
Here is a summary of the results.
