ACTION MODEL
At CDNIS we believe action happens continuously and can take many forms.
Whenever you take your learning further in a way that makes you consider your emotional response, prompts you to learn more about the issue and causes you to do something about it, you are taking action! The model helps you to specifically identify what type of action you are taking. As you move from one element to another, you are prompted to follow the path to and from reflection (see the model diagram below). The idea is that you ask yourself 2 questions as you move to and from ‘reflection’:
- How did I get here?
- Where am I going next?
As Gandalf, the wizard from “Lord of the Rings Trilogy” by J. R. R. Tolkien said to Frodo, “all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us”.
So, what will you do?
Growing
building awareness and empathy
Discovering
educating oneself about an issue and identifying needs
Connecting
engaging in dialogue and being open-minded about different perspectives
Participating
joining and supporting activities, events or groups that address an authentic need
Leading
taking the initiative to apply learning to meet an authentic need
