The CDNIS, Habitat for Humanity (HFH) club (https://www.facebook.com/hfhcdnis) focuses on promoting awareness of the global issue of substandard housing to the school community. We recently held an advocacy and fundraising event called “Shame Maika” from September 26-29 where students donated money to vote for a colour for Mr.Maika to dye his beard. For every $500 we raised, Mr.Maika would keep it for a day. By the end of our 4 day event, we were able to raise a little more than $2000! Students were also able to answer several trivia questions about HFH, depending on the amount they donated, for a chance to be entered into our raffle draw to win $10 off their next HFH purchase. Winners will be announced on our Facebook by next week! All the money raised by our club goes directly towards paying the HFH donation on our build trips to make trips more affordable for students. Also make sure to keep an eye out for our next campaign, a series of pre-trip activities in the forum!
