It’s here, it’s here! The audition pack is here!

The production team of Wizard of Oz has been hard at work preparing the materials for you to use in your audition. You can download that pack here. We can’t wait to see how you do! We will post the link to audition sign-ups on the morning of November 4. Please read the rest of this post for important audition information:

  • All auditions will take place in LLAC 816 (Ms. Benusa’s classroom) on Monday, November 25 – Thursday November 28 from 2:30-5:00 each day. Callbacks will take place Friday, November 29 from 2:45-5:00 (we may end early if possible).
  • Callbacks will take place on November 29 after school. Please keep this time open in case we want to see more in considering you for a main or minor role.
  • Does everyone get in? For the Lower School Production we want to give as many children as possible an experience on stage. If students are ready to commit significant time to rehearsals and have a positive approach to the show, they will have a role in the musical. There are not enough main/minor roles for everyone, but we try to give chances for everyone to shine in their own special way.
  • Students can audition in two ways: ensemble audition or main/minor audition. These auditions have specifically allocated time slots, so please be careful when you sign up. Students who sign up for an ensemble audition will not be considered for a featured singing, dancing or speaking role but instead will be placed in an ensemble role if they get a place in the production. Students who audition for a main/minor role and do not get one will be placed in the ensemble.
  • Ensemble auditions will take place in a large group of whoever is signed up in that spot. Main/minor auditions will take place with one student at a time.
  • Students who sign up for a main/minor slot will audition on their own for an audition panel for around five minutes. Please be punctual for auditions. If you miss your time slot we cannot guarantee that there will be space to squeeze you in later on.
  • In each audition students will sing a song of your choice from the audition pack to the instrumental track and engage in a movement activity. The material does not have to be memorized but it does have to be confident! Show us how you can shine!
  • While you wait for your audition slot you are welcome to sit in the LLAC 8/f hallway or the LLAC lobby. You are not permitted to be in other parts of the school unless you are with an already scheduled activity or you have the permission of the teacher. Please bring a book to read or another quiet activity to do while you wait.
  • If you have a later audition, you do not have to be at school the whole time, you can go home (or to another activity) and come back, just make sure you are on time for your audition slot!
  • Parents are asked to please stay in the LLAC lobby while auditions are in session.
  • If you are a bus rider please sign up for a slot before 3:40pm to ensure you get to the bus in time. Students signed up for auditions after 3:40 must organize their own transportation home.
  • The cast list will be posted on December 2. Student contracts confirming your acceptance of the role and commitment to the show are due before 12:00 on December 6. Upon receiving signed student contracts, the cast member will receive their script and access to music tracks.

Questions? Email Ms. Benusa! Better yet, come to one of our final WOZ Workshops on Nov 8 or 15 to learn more about auditions (parents are encouraged to come for the Q & A at the end of each session).
