Dear Parents Grade 4B,

SLLR Reminder
The purpose of the SLLR is to fully engage the student in his or her own learning. As the name implies, it is a student-focused event that enables and supports the voice of each child as a unique learner. If you haven’t signed up for a time slot yet, please do so at your earliest convenience.

Performing Arts SLLR
To provide an authentic learning experience in the performing arts during Prep to Grade 5 student-led learning reviews, students are invited to bring their parents to their performing arts classroom. There, you will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of hands-on learning engagements in music, dance and drama. Sessions will be on a drop-in basis only. No appointments necessary.

Mrs. Butler (Grades 4, 5, 6) – LLAC 613
Ms. Saunders (Prep, Dance Grades 1-6) – LLAC 815

Call for Guest Speakers
As we begin our new unit of inquiry under the transdisciplinary theme How We Express Ourselves. Our central idea is “Media influences the choices people make”. We are looking for some guest speakers in our parent community. If you are in marketing or advertising, or have some experience with campaigning, we would love to hear from you. We are hoping that you would be able to share some of the techniques or “tricks of the trade” that go into persuading a target audience. Our lines of inquiry for this unit are:
Different forms of media (FORM)
How persuasive tools and techniques are used by the media (FUNCTION)
How people respond to media (PERSPECTIVE)
If you are willing to be a guest speaker, please contact me and we can arrange a time for you to come in and share with 4A, or possibly the whole Grade 4 cohort.

Breaking 60 Documentary
The AYP students at CDNIS are proudly hosting the Breaking 60 documentary on Friday April 26th from 3-4pm in the LLAC theatre. Students (grade 4 and above), staff and parents are invited. There will also be pre-documentary snacks in the LLAC lobby from 2:40-2:55pm. Students in Grades 4-6 will be given first priority on the ASA busses.

The Breaking 60 documentary is a trail running movie that follows four runners that try and break the four major trails of Hong Kong (Maclehose, Lantau, Hong Kong and Wilson) that equal 298 km in under 60 hours. The film focuses on persistence, grit and resilience with two of the runners unable to finish the race due to physical injury. It is an incredible documentary that showcases effort and hard work through the process, instead of just the product. The director Ben Lee will be attending and will be answering questions at the end.

Please see the Flash for more information on how to sign up.
