What a year! What a surprise!-June 6

by paulhumphrey on June 7, 2014

Wow! What a wonderful surprise parents put together on Friday. Although our beach trip became showered off, the parents and 4E students turned this around to lift the spirits of their teacher with an incredible surprise. How you kept this secret was a feat in itself.

Thank you so much for your generosity which I will always treasure this wonderful year in G4 .  I really appreciate the cool Swatch, hiking gear, Soho vouchers and the super special album of memories from each student that I found their kind comments most touching. Special thanks to Sherin who coordinated this and even had the extra touch including a bottle of bubbly. (Sorry that I had to refrain from opening this until after school!)

Where did the year go? This will likely be the last blog for the year which I write with mixed emotions.  On one hand, like the class members, I am excited to be starting the Summer holiday to recharge the batteries. On the other hand, I am sad to be leaving CDNIS and the wonderful 4E.

I have felt fortunate to have been the teacher/mentor /learner of your children. I feel proud that the class has worked well as a team and have generally excelled.  This is also attributed to the wonderful parent support I have had in this educational partnership.

Many thanks go to Preethi and Sherin for the valuable help on Tuesdays with the reading programme. You have made a difference!  Special thanks also to Sherin who has also been a very supportive and helpful room mum.

Class Party:

The class voted to hold the party during P5 and P6 on the last day of school. ( 12:00 -1:30 ) Students voted for two members to coordinate what they would like to happen. Parents are most welcome to pop in at any stage during the afternoon.

Most Grade 4 parents have purchased laptops for their children. If you haven’t please do so as soon as possible.  (For those that already own a computer you need to purchase a cover.) Further information can be found on this post at the LTT website.   Today Ms Fung answered many questions from the class related to the purchase of their laptops.

30 May: Count Down to Summer Holiday

by paulhumphrey on May 30, 2014

Friday evening and I can’t believe that the last full week for this academic year is over. Only seven school days remain! Although I do know the students are well ready for the next stage in their learning by moving to Grade 5. This week 4E visited every Grade 5 teacher and hopefully shared with you their experiences.

A lot was crammed into this week. Students have all presented their Disaster inquiry. In math budgets for their Summer holiday should be finished and ready to share on Tuesday. Each child chose an Algebra booklet to match their level and have been keenly working away at the problems. Disaster stories should be all finished and handed to me for my weekend reading.  A few students were writing novels and have asked for an extension until Tuesday.  The tasks related to literacy circles should be almost finished and handed in on Wednesday.

Beach Trip

All of grade 4 are headed to South Bay beach on Friday June 6.  Parents are welcome to come and join in on the fun, but must have their own transportation.  If the weather is not cooperating, we will be staying at school and doing some fun activities in the classrooms.  Students are encouraged to bring in snacks that can be shared with friends and are easily portable.

Please remember to purchase your child’s laptop by June 2nd. (For those that already own a computer you need to purchase a cover.) Further information can be found on this post at the LTT website.   Today Ms Fung answered many questions from the class related to the purchase of their laptops.

Dear Parents

Class and student blogs will not be available over the weekend of May 31 – June 2 due to a necessary upgrade of the school WordPress server which runs these sites. Services will resume by Tuesday 3 June.

April 11, 2014

It was wonderful to see every student keenly sharing their learning at the SLLR. I was impressed listening to members of the class.
