This week in 4D…

  • we started the week with a reflection Blog Post about camp
  • students completed a spelling check-in activity and we worked through some frequently misspelled patterns
  • to end the HWOO unit, students presented their case studies on natural disasters to the class
  • we completed a final unit assessment and reflection
  • in math we are working on fractions – to start we have been completing activities/challenges using Cuisinaire Rods
  • on Wednesday we used a virtual reality Google Expedition to learn more about the forests of Borneo and ecosystem within. We also looked at the dilemma of deforestation in this part of the world.
  • we continued with the building of our houses using Minecraft
  • on Wednesday we were treated to a poetry performance by Faust
  • we began planning for the 4D assembly which is coming up later in April
  • students were given their new Sharing the Planet process journals and we completed a few initial prior-knowledge activities
  • we looked at a few short video clips to begin our inquiry into ecosystems
  • students have been working away at assigned Fractions tasks on Mathletics
  • we ended the week with a Unicef Upper School led activity
  • we finished session 3 of Robotics with Ms. Fung

Next week…

  • on Monday we have a learning session with the Grade 7’s. They will conduct mini workshops for us related to our unit of inquiry.
  • we will continue with our work on Fractions by looking at how they relate to decimals
  • for our STP unit we will be taking a closer look at the interdependence of organisms within ecosystems
  • we will be finding examples of natural and human disturbances to ecosystems
  • our literacy focus will be on sentence fluency and we will be looking at both good and bad examples of fluency in writing
  • we will continue with our preparation for our upcoming assembly
