This week in 4D…

  • we worked on our summative visible thinking activity and began to self-assess our understanding of the HTWW unit
  • students spent some time reflected on their goals, identifying progress and generating ideas for new goals
  • we completed another set of math measurement rotations – the focus this week was volume/capacity
  • students continued working their way through natural disaster information graphs, identifying key information and analyzing graph data
  • on Wednesday we did unit rotations where students visited each grade 4 classroom to inquire into how people/communities prepare for and respond to various natural disasters
  • we visited our Pre-Reception buddies to read books related to their unit and we helped them construct tools that are used by people/communities as part of their current inquiry
  • we continued our work on reading comprehension strategies by learning about annotating text, using an article about Japan’s preparedness for disasters as a mentor text

Next week…

  • we have numerous guest speakers to look forward to on Tuesday and Wednesday, we will be taking notes as we listen carefully to their experiences with preparation/response to natural disasters
  • we will begin to look more closely at what people and different communites/cities do to prepare for the possibility of natural disasters
  • our work on measurement will continue
  • we will begin our second narrative writing piece, using feedback from the first one to make improvements
  • on Thursday we will be at Sandy Bay for most of the day for our G3/4 sports day
  • we will have our sharing sessions for both our narratives and our iTime work on Friday

Many thanks for taking time out of your busy days to come in for the learning reviews! It’s always good to touch base and identify strengths and next steps as we look towards the second half of the year!
