This week in 4D…

  • we inquired into the impact of natural disasters on the planet and people
  • our work on data handling continued and we learned about the terms mean, median, and mode
  • students researched average January high and low temperatures around the world and created a double bar graph displaying their findings
  • we learned about stem and leaf plots as a way to organize data
  • we worked away at tasks on Mathletics related to data handling to reinforce concepts we are exploring in class
  • continuing our work on reading comprehension strategies for non-fiction text, we have been reading more articles related to landforms and natural disasters
  • some students are working on their narratives still while others are conferencing with me to edit/revise
  • students sat down with me today to look over and discuss their reports which will be available online today at 4pm

Next week…

  • we will be starting some measurement rotations in math looking at elapsed time, mass, capacity, volume, and unit conversions
  • we will be completing a few more activities related to data handling
  • our focus on non-fiction reading comprehension continues as we explore articles related to our unit
  • art classes begin and will be held every Monday afternoon for the remainder of the year
  • writing conferences should finish and students will have the opportunity to share their stories with each other
  • after some reflection on our first narratives we will begin planning for a second one
  • in math we will also begin to look at money through some problem solving activities
