I don’t know about you, but I feel like this is the second Friday we’ve had this week :)  I hope you enjoyed the mid-week holiday! We sure know how to fill our weeks! We’re finishing up a probability math unit.  Students are designing and creating board games to show their knowledge and understanding about probability. They’re really coming along – and will be finished next week.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Though our new unit – Sharing the Planet – officially starts next week, we tuned into the transdisciplinary theme this week and started a new process journal. After the Exhibition, 6E students are old pros! Newsflashes also began this week, and will continue throughout  the unit. All of Grade 6 participated in a mini-workshop, led by Mr Woods, about Action as an essential element of the PYP. We learned how we define action, and what we can do about action. We were inspired by the following video:

We spent time with our Prep F buddies again this week, and we enjoyed listening to them talk about their learning through their portfolios.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We finished our week with a Grade 5/6 Assembly hosted by 6D and 5C. Lots of laughs and fun times to be shared. The students who participated in the Math Olympiad  were presented with their awards, including two students from the Elite Empire. Congratulations Jesse and Ashley!

Next week starts the Festival of the Arts. 6E students will be participating in a few events over the week. Remember the 6E Spotlight performance is on Tuesday at 7:50am.

We’ll soon be looking into our next unit of inquiry – Sharing the Planet. In order for students to be more aware of what’s going on in the world, they’ll need to be reading the news every day. This could be with print newspapers, or online sources. As newspapers can sometimes be tricky to understand, students are encouraged to check out some of the following online sources:

Please note that Friday, April 26 is a Dress Down Day. The theme is camouflage clothing colors (green, brown, grey, dark blue, etc.) and the charity is Crossroads Foundation. If students are dressing down, we ask they contribute $20 towards Crossroads.

Exhibition week is here! It’s finally happening!

After a super productive, but VERY LONG week last week, we are ready to present! Students have worked tirelessly on every aspect of their investigation, Process Journals, and displays. I am so proud of the way all the Grade 6 students have worked so far, and am looking forward to their presentations this week.

Today means we’re back to regular classes… ish. Tomorrow (Tuesday), all of the students will be at their booths for the duration of the school day. Upper School and Lower School classes will be visiting all of the booths and chatting with the students. Wednesday will see the students at their booths for a short session, and in the homerooms for the rest of the day.

Here are a couple important reminders for parents about Wednesday evening:

  • Students are expected to be in their homerooms no later than 6:15. There will be no after school supervision and no meals provided, so students must leave school afte 2:20pm.
  • Students are expected to be in full school uniform unless they have a costume that will enhance their presentations.
  • The Opening Ceremony will start at 6:30 and we anticipate the Exhibition booth visiting to start at 7:00.
  • Your child’s presentation will be in the Library or LLAC lobby. Please make sure he/she has informed you where they are located.
  •     Please be sure to visit both venues.
  •     Please speak to the students. Ask them questions. Feel free to challenge them. They are the experts and have been preparing for this evening for weeks.
  •     Refreshments are for parents only. Students are not permitted to eat or drink during their Exhibition presentations.
  •     Students are required to stay at their exhibits until 8:30pm.

We’re excited!  We’re looking forward to a fun week, and a successful Exhibition. See you Wednesday!
