Events This Short Week.

In maths, we continued to work on maths word problems as well as reviewing some of the strategies that we use to solve addition and subtraction problems.  We also have been reviewing our maths skills on mathletics and splash maths.

In literacy, we wrote another poem for our poetry book.  This time it was a Cinquain Poem.  A cinquain – which, is pronounced “sin-cane,” not “sin-kwane” – is a form of verse that is very popular because of its simplicity. It is easy and fun for children to write. With just 11 words and five short lines, a cinquain is compact and loaded with descriptive language.

In UOI, we continued to look at art, and this week the focus was appreciation and interpretation of the artist’s message.  We used our senses to experience jumping into a painting and describe what was there and then wrote a postcard to describe those experiences.  We also turned this experience into a free verse poem with some beautiful results.  Mr G also visited 1a to explain how photography is also art and looked at composition in landscape and portrait photography.
