Sports Excellence and Sportsmanship in Action

by marcsteiner on November 10, 2016

After coming back after a successful trip to Bangkok Thailand to coach the T-Wolves U20 Boys Volleyball team I was moved to share some of the experience with the lower school. After having taught and coached some of the members of the team since G4 I was reminded of how important sport can be in the lives of children and youth and the lasting impressions it can have upon them.  If parents, teachers and coaches do a good job of motivating and encouraging them to achieve excellence great things can be accomplished. The U20 boys team won the ISSFHK and SEASAC championships behind cohesive teamwork, dedication, a willingness to train hard and form solid bonds of trust and friendship. The fact they also received the sportsmanship award as voted by other teams was a testament to their work ethic and their joy of sport.  They were true ambassadors of CDNIS, forging friendships and raising the level of play and conversation amongst their peers. Whenever I watch the young children I teach and coach, I am reminded that there is much they can accomplish in life if they are given the tools to do so. I am always optimistic that these future leaders of the world will have a lasting and positive influence upon the world. I am proud of what these students accomplish in sport, academics, performing arts and service to the world around them.

G 2, 3, and 6 Review after Week 10 of classes.

by marcsteiner on October 31, 2016

It was wonderful to see parents and students at the 3-Way learning reviews prior to the October holiday and it was nice to see the students refreshed after time with family wherever they vacationed.

The Grade 6’s have now completed their unit “Developing Good Technique Leads to Success in Racquet Sports” with great success.  Many students kept weekly journals of their thoughts and actions in the unit, many met or exceeded their goals and their knowledge and understanding of the game showed solid improvement alongside their skills progression. We have spent a few classes on volleyball skills and Newcombe ball prior to beginning their first swimming session the week of November 2nd. After swimming they will begin focusing on what it takes to prepare for a big sporting event like the Olympics or Sports Day.

The G 3’s completed their Structures Unit and have demonstrated steady progress in their swimming and water safety skills. Their next unit ties in with their homeroom unit “Human Migration Involves Challenges, Risks and Opportunities”.  We will touch on a number of team sports that are popular around the world and look at where they originated from.

The G2’s have an improved understanding of how to take care of their personal well being after completing their unit “Our Personal Well-Being is Affected by the Choices We Make”.  They have a deeper understanding of how important sleep, eating well, exercising and treating others respectfully is to their overall well being. They have made steady progress with their swimming and water safety skills. They will soon begin their next unit entitled “People use a variety of strategies and skills to accomplish common goals.”
