Great Start to the Year!

by marcsteiner on September 1, 2016

The G2’s, G3’s and G6’s have started the year in fine form!

Grade 2’s have been focused on their Central Idea of “Our Personal Well-Being is Affected by the Choices We Make.” by participating in a variety of physical activities which have kept them busy increasing their heart rate, breathing rate and body temperature. They have also focused on making good decisions on how they interact with their classmates in the physical education environment.  See video below:

The Grade 3’s have been looking at their “Many Factors Need to be Considered in the Process of Creating a Structure” unit through the lens of PE and having a lot of fun with cup-stacking and related games and relays. As their hand-eye coordination improves and they get more fit, they are also understanding how to apply the concepts learned in the homeroom in building pyramids, etc. in the PE environment. Words such as foundation, aesthetics, strength, and balance, are but a few of the many words used in PE. See video below:

The Grade 6’s have done a solid job of improving their technique in the sport of badminton while engaging in a variety of activities such as “Team Rotation”, “Rally Rally”,  and “Beat the Champ”. They have also done a wonderful job of learning how to set up and take down the badminton nets in a very efficient manner through solid teamwork and cooperation, which demonstrates their virtues of responsibility and helpfulness. When discussing our Central Idea of “Developing Good Technique Leads to Success in Racquet Sports” we decided that we could take out the word “racquet” and apply this central idea to all sports, since learning good technique is bound to help an athlete achieve better success regardless of the sport they engage in.

G6 students are encouraged to watch the following videos to better understand the rules, techniques, strategies and positions when playing the game of badminton.
