Week 3/4 of PE

by marcsteiner on September 11, 2014

The G4′s and 6′s completed their fitness circuits where they focused on duration, intensity and rest intervals while going from station to station.  Each station focused on either cardiovascular, muscular strength, balance and agility, or hand-eye coordination. Check out the Fitness Circuit video to see the kids in action. They will now be focusing on net games and learn skills and strategies that will help them be successful in these games (for example badminton, modified tennis…).

The G2′s continue to work on cooperative games.  This week they worked together on tunnel ball and hoop relays where teamwork and cooperation is the main focus. The G3′s have begun learning/reviewing another invasion game by practising skills and strategies in “mat ball” which will lead into team handball. A reminder that all G2′s and G3′s have begun their swim sessions and should always be prepared with proper swim kit for their designated day.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Mid-Autumn Festival. The moon was bright and easy to see.

I look forward to seeing parents at Curriculum Night.

Week 2 of PE

by marcsteiner on August 31, 2014

The Grade 2′s enjoyed working on their throwing and catching skills in preparation for playing cooperative games and doctor dodgeball where they focused on following the rules, being honest, and working with their teammates to achieve success.  The G3′s enjoyed learning and reviewing the invasion game “gold rush” where they had the opportunity to create effective strategies for success, encouraging teammates, taking risks, practicing their skills, following the rules and demonstrating good sportsmanship. The Grade 4′s and G6′s have now completed their fitness appraisals and have begun to create their fitness goals and explain the personal actions they will take to achieve their goals.

There are more and more studies coming out that point to the positive impact physical activity has on student learning.
