The Grade 2′s enjoyed working on their throwing and catching skills in preparation for playing cooperative games and doctor dodgeball where they focused on following the rules, being honest, and working with their teammates to achieve success. The G3′s enjoyed learning and reviewing the invasion game “gold rush” where they had the opportunity to create effective strategies for success, encouraging teammates, taking risks, practicing their skills, following the rules and demonstrating good sportsmanship. The Grade 4′s and G6′s have now completed their fitness appraisals and have begun to create their fitness goals and explain the personal actions they will take to achieve their goals.
There are more and more studies coming out that point to the positive impact physical activity has on student learning.
The official first day of classes has begun for the Lower School and we are off to a great start at CDNIS. I would first like to welcome everyone back. I hope that everyone had a wonderful summer with family, whether you were traveling or stayed close to home, whether you were relaxing by the poolside or biking up a mountain. The G4 and G6′s will begin Fitness Appraisal #1 in their 2nd PE class this week. After the fitness appraisals are complete students will write their fitness goals for the next 4 months and create personal actions they can take to achieve these goals as part of our central ideas for health related fitness. The next two classes will be focused on completing fitness circuits and then we will begin net court games. The G2 classes will spend time engaged in cooperative games while the G3 classes will focus on team games with attention paid to “invasion games”. I look forward to the progress each class makes over the course of this year in terms of acquiring skills, displaying sportsmanship and demonstrating teamwork.
I was active over the summer and was able to do some cycling (40-50km a day) in Phoenix, Arizona and Ontario, Canada. Great to be in the wide open spaces of North America.
