Teacher Profile

My mom keeps everything.  If you head up to the attic, there’s a box that holds the typical Grade 1 When I grow up… assignment.  Back then, I never planned on becoming a ballerina, astronaut or veterinarian.  Instead, written in an uneven hand, is the word, ‘TEACHER’, and even now I can’t imagine a better job!

I grew up on Quadra Island in British Columbia, Canada with my younger brother and parents.  I absolutely loved school and was very involved in school life (choir, band, media, drama, student council, creative writing, and basketball to name a few).

I attended  the University of Victoria, first attaining my Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature and Drama, followed by a Bachelor of Education.  I’ve also completed the first level of Brain Gym certification and have recently become one of seven First Steps Facilitators, currently training the CDNIS Lower School staff to use this comprehensive literacy resource.

I have taught students from the age 3 to 17 in the subjects of Literacy (including ESL), Numeracy, History, Geography, Science, Drama, Music, Art, P.E. and Inquiry.  This is now my  tenth year teaching and the start of my eighth year in Hong Kong, where I’ve also taught at the Korean International School in Sai Wan Ho for several years.  This is my third year at CDNIS where I currently teach 5E.

Hi Ms. Carmen,

This is the second time I have submitted my email and subscribed to the mother ship website. Hope it takes this time around.

Rohaan and I are enjoying the various games and videos you have taken the time to put on the site. Thank you. We watched the introductory science video on states of matter this evening, but he says you have just recently started the unit at school.

One of our favorite books by Shel Silverstein is ‘The Giving Tree’.

Please advise if you need my assistance with class field trips, special events, guest speakers, or parties this year.

Regards,
Gulnar

Welcome! You made it!

I’m a big fan of The Giving Tree myself!

Thanks for putting yourself forward for future events!

Cheers!

Ms. C.
