Since 1985, Marc Smith has breathed life into words onstage in Chicago. He started what is known as slam poetry—a competitive fusion of live performance with poetry. Now popular across the country, slam poetry has continued to thrive at the Green Mill Jazz Club in Uptown Chicago.
