The parent overview for WWA UOI is posted on the progamme overview page.
This week has certainly been an adventure, the highlight being the buddies. We read the story A Box Can Be Many Things by Dana Meachen. We then invited our buddies to help us find out if this is true. We hope you enjoyed the finished product as much as we enjoyed creating it!! We were responsible as we used scaples, adult scissors and tough tape!
We had lots of fun exploring open ended materials, building dens, prisons, cannons and a restaurant.
This led to a fun literacy activity.
To extend car play we placed planks of wood in the outdoor area and the children decided to build roads and ramps.
This led to a mini math inquiry on how fast the cars will travel on different surfaces and steepness of slopes.
We are beginning to figure out that we can accomplish a lot more when we collaborate and work as a team.
We continued tuning in to the UOI by asking the question “What is your favourite activity at school?” We laid down on our tummies to draw this activity – lying down to draw promotes pencil grip and wrist position.
We concluded the inquiry on the forest by brainstorming the different animals you would likely find in a forest, not sure if I’m keen to venture there now!!! Poisonous frogs, leopard slugs to name a few!
Thank you to all of you for the photos of your child playing at home, this will be our focus next week.
A heads up for those of you thinking of booking Kidsfest in January, we are going to see Hairy Maclary as an Early Years team. Exact date to be confirmed.
Have a lovely weekend,
Gill and Val
