My name is DJ MacPherson and I am the Grade 6C homeroom teacher at CDNIS. This is my fourth year here. Prior to arriving in Hong Kong, I spent eleven years working at different schools in the Guangzhou area in China. All of my teaching experience has involved working with children from grades 4-6.
I come from Cape Breton in Canada. My two children were born in China and are currently attending CDNIS. I hold Masters degrees in both History and Curriculum Studies. My interests include coaching basketball, following sports and traveling.
As a teacher, I feel education is less about good “grades” and more about empowering students to enable them to fulfill their potential. The classroom is a place where understandings are both challenged and deepened, where skills are developed, where it is safe to take risks and where cooperation is respected. I hope to instill in my students a love of learning and a desire to come to school.

I have started a professional blog that I am trying to use as tool for further developing my skills as well as my understandings about teaching and learning. I invite you to explore this work in progress here: Think. Learn. Understand. Challenge. You can follow my professional learning community on Twitter:
