This has been a fun week on the 8th floor as we dig deeper into our current Unit Of Inquiry, Sharing the Planet. Read more about the unit by visiting the link, where you will find the Unit Overview.
We have been reading the fictional recount of Iqbal Masih and learning about the lives of children in different parts of the world. The students have also been researching and documenting stories of Child Heroes, examining challenges that these individuals faced, the causes of the challenge, actions taken in response to adversity and the results/effects of their actions. Below is a YouTube video about Iqbal Masih.
We have also been practicing our Geography skills with fun games and challenges to help us learn the names of countries and cities as well as their locations on a world map. This will help us during the later parts of this unit, when we start learning about children from more diverse places. Thanks DJ 09 for sharing this fun video with us!
Fractions can be Fun!
In our current math unit on fractions, we’ve enjoyed making Fraction Poems as well as Fraction Funnies. Ask your child to explain these 2 great activities that are all about fractions, just not in the traditional sense!
