Robotics

Our group worked on making a simple machine that makes lifting an object easier. We used a lever that was long where the weight will be placed and a short lever where the weight will be lifted. This makes the lever have a more mechanical advantage as the formula is output force divided by input force. The lever has a mechanical advantage of 1.5

Arts Proposal

I am in a group with Joshua, me and Daryl. We decided to do a timelapse where we draw important parts of Hong Kong and we make a song that helps demonstrate the mood in each of the locations. This reflects our poem because our poem is about how Hong  Kong is both calm and busy. I and Joshua recorded our selves drawing important parts in Hong Kong, and Daryl created the music.

How well did you communicate your experience as a Hong Konger? *
I communicated about my experience in Hong Kong by showing that my experience and perspective about Hong Kong is that it is Peaceful. I help show this by drawing big buildings and cars and trams and then drawing people fishing and nature. This is what I feel Hong Kong is and you also get a good feeling about this in the music as it goes from calm to busy, and then back to calm.

How would you describe your personal success as an interdisciplinary learner? *
I feel that I had  success of being an IDU learner. I was able to incorporate English, art, and music in a way that it worked well together. I was able to understand how the units connect to each other. I was able to see that all units can capture the mood and used that similarity so that the mood is captured. I believe this is the purpose of IDU, which is to find similarities between the subjects and working with it.

How would you describe benefits of the interdisciplinary unit with specific examples. *
I believe that the benefits of IDU is that it helps show how units are intertwined and how one unit can help solve a problem in another unit. IDU helps us become more creative on how we can mix all the subjects together.

What were the limitations of the interdisciplinary unit? Give specific examples… *
One limitation to the IDU is that we may be forced to use subjects that you do not enjoy. For example I personally do not enjoy art, however, I am forced to do it as it is part of this IDU.

Grade yourself using the IDU Specifications. Easy if you have followed the above instructions!

What are your Personal Goals and Intention of this project?

Our intention is to showcase all the important locations and themes in Hong Kong and show that Hong Kong is calm and also busy. We will create of a timelapse that contains us drawing on photos of each area in Hong Kong. The piece will have original music to help set the mood for each drawing. Our goal is to be able to effectively create music that will help show the mood in Hong Kong and to be able to draw important parts in HK

Hows does this project connect to your English Poem of choice?
Our project is a video showing the harbour, central and Hong Kong park. The drawing will also be of those three locations but we will add more by drawing on each photo.

Project Genesis Product and Reflection

Explain the step by step process of this assignment… *
I first decided on what type of theme do I want my song to be. I eventually chose to have a song that is sad and is very emotional. I then tried to find what will make the listener very emotional, and i though minor arpeggios would help amplify that. I then researched what instruments are sad sounding, I then found that flutes, violins, cellos, and oboes have sad sounds. After I added these instruments I then started by writing the arpeggios on the cello. After I had a basic melody, I started to add melody with the other instruments. I decided that I want all the instruments to be playing with another instrument at one point. I also decided that my song is to be a journey, and that it goes from happy to sad, and back to happy again.

Assess your success against your assessable criteria from your proposal… *
My song did meet my requirements as when I asked my classmates, they said that the song moved them and that it was good. Also I felt that I did the best I could have possibly done, because this experience was new to me, and I was able to produce a song that people enjoyed

Evaluate your learning and new skills acquired. *
I felt that I learned a lot in writing this song. I learned the most effectively to write a song. This helped me to start my song faster and allow me more time to think about ideas and how I want to write my song I first wrote a title that would allow me to base my song around it. This was something that I would have never though would be important. I also learnt that you should not write a song from beginning to end, and so I started writing my song from different locations, This helped me because I was able to link the melodies I made, making the song smoother

What challenges did you face and overcome. *
One challenge that I came upon with was what genre I should do .I first wanted to make a song that involves singing, however I found that to be too complicated and that I would run out of time. I also struggled to decide what instruments U wanted to use, and what style I wanted to do. All of this was solved when I found a website that showed the correct process on how to write a song, and from there I started to develop my ideas.

Research

What information are you using from this link? *
This helps me to write a song, as the experience is different for me. It gives a structured plan that can help me make the song most effectively

What information are you using from this link? *
This link teaches me how to structure my song to make it interesting and sound better. This will help me because a well-structured song will sound grab the attention of the listener more than a song that has no structure

What information are you using from this link? *
This will help me brainstorm possible lyrics and a chorus. Having a solid idea for a song will help you write your lyrics so they make sense and is catchy

What information are you using from this link? *
This helps me to make the link between the lyrics and the melody, as in order to have a good song, the lyrics and the melody need to match

Project Genisis Criteria c

My goal is to be able to write lyrics and to be able to create either a completely original song, or take inspiration from a song

Why this project? *
I have never made an original song before, but I have experience creating music sheets. This project will incorporate something that I have completely no experience in and something that I want to improve in.

Outline/Process (Steps) to Achieve Goal. *
I will research how artists write music and try the same process I will research on the ins and outs of musescore( the software I will be using) I will ask for feedback from my peers so I can improve my song

What do you hope to learn? *
I hope to learn how to write music, and how musicians gain inspiration to write music

What are the criteria you will use to self assess the success of your product? *
I will ask my peers if they enjoy my music. I will also asses myself if I tried my best and if there was anything I could have done better
