Welcome to your iFolio

Your iFolio is a school provided web space that you will use throughout your time at CDNIS. You will use your iFolio to define your learning goals, show your learning journey, reflect on your learning and how you have developed your Approaches to Learning skills, share your best work and celebrate your achievements.

Your iFolio, in time will provide a better picture of who you are as a learner and as an individual. You are therefore highly encouraged to personalize your iFolio. You can start off by selecting one of the 60+ themes available.

Before you start using your new iFolio, follow the steps below to change the ‘Home’ link within your navigation menu to point to your site:

1. Go to your Dashboard menu options (link will open in a new tab)

Humanities U1 Food Summative Reflection

During this first summative assessment in humanities, I learned a lot of interesting history and facts about the food. For example, in previous years, I never knew how much water that one pound of meat requires to produce, but I know now. After this summative, I understood a lot of impacts that I was giving to the environment, people, and the global Earth. Despite that I learned some interesting facts from this summative, I suffered a lot of challenges I faced while doing my research organizer and presentation. One of the challenge I faced was that I couldn’t keep up my action plan, because there wasn’t enough time. Also, while I was make this presentation, I was overthinking and feeling nervous about the presentation that I have to do in front of class. This gave me a lot of stress.

Music Criteria D Reflection

Describe the process of this assignment

First, I planned what will my music theme be, and then I started to plan what will I record. I recorded the sounds that were happening in CDNIS, and also outside of CDNIS. I recorded drilling sound outside, footstep, bell, and person whistling. After recording all of them, I briefly outlined my music. I actually made the end part first, which was the rock theme. However, while I was trying to figure out more details on Garageband, I discovered something called synth. I tried multiple of synths and it was very suitable for melody, so I used it for my music. This is how my music was created.

Discuss your CDNIS sounds and how useful they were for your end product

I used the footstep sound for the beat for my music, its job was kind of like a drum. The bell ringing sound was good for decorating the melody, and I used it like the cymbals in my music. I used the whistling sound to start my music with an impression. For the drilling sound, I made it to join the melody. I thought the drilling sounds like wind, which I thought it will be good with the melody.

Evaluate your learning and new skills acquired

I acquired some Garageband skills, such as using plugins, and finding out the new Midi instrument type”synth” how to play those (I thought there were only basic instruments in Garageband like piano, guitar etc). I also improved my knowledge of creating music. For example, I learned that usually, the interesting part should come out on beat 4, and I have to repeat some parts to make the listener to enjoy the music. I shouldn’t randomly put the loops. These were the some knowledge I got.

What challenges did you face and overcome?

One of my challenge I faced was while I was recording my sound, there were a lot of noises around me, so it was hard to record clear sounds.
In my music, I still can hear some background noises on some of my recordings, but I covered it by putting melody and plugins. I also suffered between the transition, because it wasn’t smooth enough. I made the transition smoother by overlapping the loops.

Science Reflection

What makes a credible scientist?

A credible scientists are made from how valid their experiments are. Their data, method, etc, should be all valid in order to be credible to people. Therefore, having a lot of trials, and a lot of thinking can make a credible scientist.

Why is the scientific ‘way of knowing’ used in medicine compared to other ways of knowing?

Because scientific way of knowing is more valid and it has more trustable evidence than other “ways of knowing”. Medicines are used to cure other people, so it has to be safe. People just can’t use random ways of knowing, like “traditional ways of knowing”, etc.

Reflecting on scientific investigations is important because you can get more accurate results by repeating investigations with improvements to your method. How would you improve your seed dispersal investigation if you were to repeat it?

I will improve my seed dispersal investigation by having different dependent variable, and writing my science report in detail. This can show people my process and thinking more.
