Looking Through the Lens Reflection

I believe that this was a good project as we got to use imovie, create a piece of media and share our story with peers and teachers. Doing this project we have developed a lot of new skills; responsibility, time management, collaboration – etc.

We have made a narrated slideshow video explaining how CDNIS is a welcoming school; which connects to both of our lives as we are passionate about this issue. We took a lot of original pictures using different compositional elements, to make our pictures more interesting. I recorded it while Valerie edited, making us use great collaboration skills, and getting the job done! We have gotten good feedback on our survey from our peers.

I liked this project very much!

Crit B: Initial Clock Design

This is my design idea; it was inspired by the intricate work of the clock designers who designed the “Alice Through the Looking Glass” movie. It was one of the elements of the movie, and it really inspired me to create something similar to that. I believe that the design is so simple yet has a very complex component to it.

Some Similar Designs:

This is how the initial design that I designed turned out:

In my opinion, the design, perfectly represented what I wanted, but still had a sense of uniqueness to it.

Personal Design Project- Claudise Cookies:)

For my personal design project, I collaborated with Claudia to make both vegan and non-vegan chocolate chip cookies. Since not many people are familiar with veganism and have never tried it, we thought that creating delicious vegan cookies would step students out of their comfort zone and hopefully become more open-minded to different diets and cultures.

First, both Claudia and I researched about how to make cookies from the BuzzFeed tasty videos we saw online;

Buzzfeed Non-Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies: https://www.buzzfeed.com/alvinzhou/the-best-chewy-chocolate-chip-cookies?utm_term=.alk0M0l2b#.mwPq1qmGW

Buzzfeed Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies:                          https://tasty.co/recipe/vegan-chocolate-chip-cookies

Then, we organized what materials and ingredients; who’s gonna bring what, where we are going to bake, when, what time, -etc.

We later sent an email to be able to go to the “Hive” to bake the cookies, and we were set for the day to bake the cookies!

This is a photo of us, planning what we have to do: Overlooking what we the recipe on Buzzfeed + ingredients that we have to bring.

For me, this was an opportunity to get out of my comfort zone, since I am not that good at baking + cooking.

Assessment: Personal iFolio4Learning

The purpose of your WordPress iFolio using WordPress as blogging software to to document learning across all subjects as a base for Parent Conferencing discussions and Development of an Innovation Fair project.

C: Creating

To meet this you are required to create and manage a personal iFolio that includes the following Design Specifications

  • MYP Menu with subject listings and content (posts)
  • Tag Cloud with subject tags
  • Feedback through comments (this will be used for Teacher feedback in Design for this project)
  • Engaging Welcome pinned post
  • Appropriate media / snapshots that provide evidence of learning with accompanying explanations
  • Design elements that adhere to Design Principles covered in MYP Design (CARP, Logo, Colour, Typography, Shape, Principles (Simple, Appropriate, Timeless, Memorable, Versatile)

Task

  • Ensure your iFolio meets Design Specifications

CRITERION C

Creating the Solution

Achievement Level

Descriptor – What the IB says

What it looks like for this Design Challenge

0 The student does not reach a standard described by any of the descriptors below. Chances are I forgot to hand in something. This achievement level is completely avoidable, and I will stay on top of my assignments.
1-2 The student:

  • demonstrates minimal technical skills when making the solution
  • makes the solution which functions poorly and is presented in an incomplete form.
I have demonstrated limited knowledge and understanding:

  • I have an iFolio
  • The iFolio structure is incomplete
  • I have included minimum posts
3-4 The student:

  • demonstrates satisfactory technical skills when making the solution
  • makes the solution which partially functions and is adequately presented
I have demonstrated satisfactory knowledge and understanding:

  • My iFolio satisfied the basic requirements regarding
    – menu
    – posts (for some subject)
5-6 The student:

  • demonstrates competent technical skills when making the solution
  • makes the solution which functions as intended and is presented appropriately
I have demonstrated sound knowledge and understanding:

  • My iFolio satisfies all the basic requirements
  • The structure is complete
7-8 The student:

  • demonstrates excellent technical skills when making the solution
  • makes the solution which functions as intended and is presented appropriately
I have demonstrated extensive knowledge and understanding:

  • My iFolio provides an impressive collection of learning from all subjects
  • Media is used to help explain and extend
  • Feedback comments are obtained

D: Evaluating

Task

Provide a review of the strengths and weaknesses of your iFolio against the specifications (create a new post). Identify a plan of action to identify what still needs to be done.

  • The assessment feedback will take into account where you are currently at regarding content.

  • My iFolio evaluation clearly identifies clearly its strengths and weaknesses against the design specifications
  • A workable plan of action is provided to help ensure the iFolio meets the purpose
7-8 The student:

  • outlines the success of the solution against the requirements of the design specification based on authentic product testing
  • outlines how the solution could be improved
I have demonstrated extensive knowledge and understanding:

  • My iFolio evaluation clearly and comprehensively identifies clearly its strengths and weaknesses against the design specifications
  • A clear plan of action is provided to help ensure the iFolio meets the purpose

Discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of your IFolio
Strengths:One of my strengths in my ifolio is having all my posts tagged.

My ifolio is very organized and easy to know where everything is.

  • Tag cloud
  • The home and MYP button works

Weakness:

  • I did not have some post categories.
  • Blog is cramped

Plan of action to help meet the purpose of your iFolio
  • Add post categories when needed to make my ifolio more organized
  • Make my blog more simple so it’s easier to see
  • Ask friends to comment on my new posts
  • Ask Dr. Turner for feedback on my ifolio.

The apps I made

In Design we learned to create different apps using coding and “xcode.” In class time we made three unique apps that really stood out from one another, first one being about clicking a button and it saying “Welcome”, second one about guessing ones age in 2050 and third being about finding any kind of figure. All of these were fun to make and definitely enjoyed the process but sadly, the only app that worked was the first one as the other two had some kind of errors.

For the first app we had to add a label saying “My first app” and then dragging it into the coding area were we made named it labelTitle (not action), then we made a text field which was blank, repeating the process of dragging it in and giving it a short name like textfieldHello (again not an action) and lastly we made a button saying “Click here” again dragging it into the coding area afterwards and naming it buttonHere then in brackets saying (textfieldHello.text = “Hello World”. We did that because after clicking the button we wanted it to say Hello World in the text field. After finishing the coding, I switched it from “Iphone 7 plus” to “Iphone 7” and later starting the project to see if it worked.

I learned in these few design classes that the computer is a very dumb machine and if you make even one simple mistake when coding you have to start all over again! Overall, I enjoyed this unit and want to be learning more about it.
