What information are you using from this link? *
This link helps to learn more about writing a song overall. It tells me the elements and steps to compose a song. Also, it gives me step by step information about making all the elements. Therefore, this website helps me a lot in creating a song.

What information are you using from this link? *
This link helps me a lot when doing the chords in Garageband. Before watching this video, I never knew there was ‘smart string’ in garageband and I needed to play the chords one by one, and having a lot of troublesome during the creating process. This makes the step for making chords simple and fast, and makes my pace faster, and use more effort on other things.

What information are you using from this link? *
This link helps me a lot when doing drums. This drum gives me more advanced information than normal drums. It teaches me ways to create a unique set of the drum. This video gives me information to change different beats and fillings into my project. This really helps me to make a good drum track by myself rather than getting them from apple loops. This time I get to choose my own type of drums.

What information are you using from this link? *
This link helps me a lot in creating lyrics. Creating lyrics for me has always been a hard job for me as I don’t usually get inspiration. However, this video teaches me basic ideas to create lyrics and gives me an idea of what area my lyrics would be. This video allows me to know more about creating lyrics and find inspiration during the things near me.

Music – Genesis – Crit C

What is the goal for your assignment? *
For this project, my goal is to create a lyrical song. I would like to compose a song that includes different components, like lyrics, melody, chords, etc, and to make all these elements work together in harmony within the song.

Outline/Process (Steps) to Achieve Goal. *
First, I would need to compose a lyrical melody that sounds nice. Then I would write a set of lyrics that suits the feeling of the melody. After that I would compose chords and drums for the song. At last I would record the vocal part of the song.

Why this project? *
I chose this project because I want to try new things and learn more about composing songs. I am interested in writing a song because it is a new experience for me. I also would like to sharpen my skills with using garageband through this project.

What do you hope to learn? *
I hope to learn how to compose a nice melody and meaningful lyrics. With my sharpened garageband skills, I am sure that it would be help me in the future, such as when promoting events and making videos. I also want to learn more about the different characteristics of various instruments. Through this project, I get to make use of different instruments when composing and learn about them more in depth.

What are you must haves for this assignment? *
My composition must be at least 2 minutes, which is just right, not too long nor too short. I also need to include a melody as it is the main part for a song. I would also need a lyrics because it is a key part for a song. Lastly would be instruments, which is used to support and set off the music.

What are your desirable qualities you hope to add in for your assignment? *
I would like my composed song to include a wide range of instruments when producing music, either from Garageband or actual instruments. I want to add some dimension in the song, rather than writing a piece of plain music. I want my song to have a unique and innovative feeling to it. For example beats, I would be adding different patterns of drum beats in it to make the song more interesting.

Music – Sound of CDNIS

Describe the process of this assignment. *
During the unit, I learnt more about Garageband. The Terminology Doc improved my understanding of the use of the plugins. Also the assignments we had done also helped me explore more about them. Through this assignment, I learnt the use of those plugins and the effects on them. With many practise of using Garageband of different requirements included, such as, plugins, loops, midi track, it further helps me understand the use of Garageband. For the last assignment we did, we needed to use different equipment and sounds from CDNIS, including teacher’s sound. For me, I used the doors, plant, basketball and a teacher voice to represent the sound of CDNIS. After recording the sounds, we needed to use different plugins to change the sound and combine it with the other tracks.

Discuss your CDNIS sounds and how useful they were for your end product. *
It was a requirement to make 3 more extra sounds and one teacher speaking. I added basketball bouncing off the floor, shaking the plant, knocking the door and Ms Adair speaking. As we had to add plugins to all those recordings, I use the terminology as reference and find a sound I want to use. The sound of CDNIS helped me a lot in the transitions and blending in the different tracks. At first, after adding plugins to the sounds of CDNIS, I don’t find it useful to my track is my track has many Chinese elements which does not fit with the sounds of music I had. However, when I started to combine the music, I found the sound of CDNIS very useful for using transitions and to blend things in.

Evaluate your learning and new skills acquired. *
I learnt about the use of plugins, midi tracks and plugins during this unit. Plugins was a big component in this unit and I believe I finally take hold of the use of them. I understand the use of it as well as the effect and changes after adding the plugins. Different plugins presents a different type of change. Through combining different kind of plugins to make a new track. It might be hard at first as I am still not familiar with Garageband, however, after using it for a longer time, it helps me to extend my composition. Next would be using loops. Apple loops helped my a lot with my song, as there are a variety of different instruments with all different kinds of simple melody. Combining them with my own melody, makes the piece flowing well. Last would be using midi tracks. Midi tracks was important in most of my pieces. Using them can make the melody of the piece using all different kinds of instrument from violin to chinese instrument which had helped me a lot in the final assessment

What challenges did you face and overcome?
Through this unit, I find time management a challenge. Time was very tight for most of the assignment, with only one week or less to finish them. Therefore, I made a plan for each assignment, to ensure that I would finish the assignment on time. I also find using the keyboard on Garageband hard. I tried to play some notes on the keyboard but it didn’t come out what I expected. To solve this problem, I practised a lot with the fingering on the keyboard, and correct it manually after recording.

What was the inspiration for this song choice? *
This song was my sister’s favourite song and I asked her for which song I should get and she told me to do this song.

Things you could talk about in the next answer – learning to strum, Garageband editing, singing, drum track input, time management etc…

How did your music classes as well as your previous music session and assignment prepare you for this assignment? *
I learn chords and how to use garage band. I learnt techniques using guitar and ukulele at the same time. I learn how to make drum tracks, change time signature, how to edit the singing, etc. This helped me a lot to make my song to be better and more on time.

I have developed the skills required to perform this music successfully over music this year. Explain…*
I had developed the skills required to perform this music successfully because I tried my best to make the notes on time, smooth notes and correct notes. I think I did these quite well since I practised often, got comments and feedbacks from friends and family members and I improved myself. Therefore, I developed the skills required to perform this piece of music.

Now respond to these statements…

I have developed the skills required to perform this music successfully over the first music section. Explain… *
I have developed the skills required to perform this music because my notes are accurate, on time and the notes are even. I believe that my notes are accurate because I did a lot of practise for each note and I did some research to ensure that I am learning the skills in an accurate way. I order to make the melody smooth, I tried my best to blow my notes as even as I can. My notes are also on time as I was using the metronome while playing the flute.

I demonstrated the application of skills to create a successful piece of music. This is as good as I can get it! Explain… *
In this task I have prepared and practised a lot to get the best I can. In this task although my notes are not connected I am very happy with my melody and the accuracy of each note. I believe these are the main things that I have to be more aware. The accuracy of each note is very important, if we don’t play the notes accurately people may listen to the wrong note and played wrongly as it always been very odd when you played the wrong note which will make people think they are not prepare. Since I did all my notes accurately, I think that my melody would be good to listen.

Identify alternatives and perspectives
Listen or watch your peer’s final recording submission. After listening, read their artistic intention and thought process behind their work. How does what you thought align with theirs? *
It is nicely aligned and notes are accurate but the vocal is a bit off.
What interesting, different, or exciting elements did they use that you would be incorporate into yours next time round? *
The cords are placed very accurately and clear
Did the context of the song change through their interpretation? *
Everything was said quite precise and I understand what she was trying to express and do. The whole piece was nicely played, I like the way she played it.
