Making my Clock – Design

For the third term of design, I made a laser wood clock for my brand. The clock included a quote and some simple shapes. The quote is “Stars don’t shine without darkness” and the shapes are basically stars. I think it would be a good idea to have this quote on the wall to be an encouragement or motivation for me. The stars represent parts of the quote. I have some problems with the color codes during my making of the clock. But luckily my friend helped me with colors so my clock can be able to be printed. Before my clock was printed, the teacher told me my stroke around the clock is too high and somethings unexpected popped up on my illustrator page. To fix that, I made a copy of my original document and adjusted the stroke to 0.1 pt. After that, my clock was successfully printed. During this process, I learned a lot of new functions in Illustrator. I learned about color codes, how to stroke and fill, and so on. At the end, I’m proud that my clock is printed and everything is happening as I expected.

Coding Project

We worked on the Coding Project for design class. Because I’m using a loaner from the school, I am unable to work on the actual coding part for the project. Before the coding step of the project, we are assessed on Criteria B “Developing Ideas”, which is the mockup plan for the actual coding. We first decided which topic are we doing. I decided I’m doing an app about the benefits of listening to music. Then, I designed a rough draft using A4 paper. There is a limitation that we can only have four screens (including one with links to other screens), so I decicded to have one screen talking about the topic, one screen with a fun quiz, and one screen with links and videos. Here’s the photo of the rough draft:

After finishing the rough draft, I started drawing my ideas into a formal plan on a piece of paper with four screens. In this plan, you must include the designs or size of the labels or buttons, you need to write the code for the quiz screen, etc. When you finished the plan, you need to make sure if a person that has absolutely no idea how to code can understand what you need to do. Here’s a photo of my first formal plan:

After giving the first formal plan to the teacher, we found the these good things about the plan:

  • Homepage has color and buttons
  • Code structure awesome

Also, we found some problems:

  • Lack of image on the homepage
  • Can’t tell what topic I’m doing
  • Link Content (what does it tell?)
  • Have object names for links
  • Home button boring
  • Don’t know question

After receiving these feedback, I made some changes to the plan, which has automatically changed to my second formal plan:

MYP Design Crit D – Improving my Ifolio

My Ifolio had been a useful place for summarising what I had learned through my MYP journey. In my Ifolio, there are strengths and weaknesses in it.

Here are the strengths:

  1. All posts in my iFolio is categorized with the subjects that matches my post
  2. All my posts have featured images
  3. The welcome post to my Ifolio is a sticky post which is the first post you see when you come to my blog

Here are the weaknesses:

  1. Sometimes the text will be hard to see according to the font
  2. Don’t have a bar for subjects according to the category

Here’s how I can improve it:

For the font, I should change to a legible font for every post I do so the post I make will be easily read. On the other hand, if there’s a title or subtitle in the passage, I should make the title big enough so people can recognize the topic of my post.

For the subjects, I should customize the subject bar so everything is very organized and a teacher or parent visit my blog, they can easily know what I have been working in school for every subject.

Design Crit. C & D Post

The Weaknesses of my blog:

My Plan of Action

For the font, I should change to a legible font for every post I do so the post I make will be easily read. On the other hand, if there’s a title or subtitle in the passage, I should make the title big enough so people can recognize the topic of my post.

Designing Apps!

In design class, we’ve been working on a app that combines all the things we’ve learned for our first three apps.

Before doing it on the computer, we made a plan by drawing and steps on a sheet. Here’s the photo plan:

Here’s a photo of the layout:

Here’s a photo of the code:

Here’s a photo of the app:

I think overall this app worked really well because it is quite easy if you know all the steps for the fist three apps.
