This photo is about the recent math work that has been going on in school. This work although you probably can’t see it that well is about estimating and inverse operation. I am proud of this work because I felt like I did it really neatly. I also was proud because I showed my work a lot.If I were to do this again I would make my handwriting more clear because words are smushed together.
This week there were a lot of different academic activities. Some were completely new experiences which made me nervous. For example, I took my MAP test. A MAP test is when you are asked a series of questions and the test adjusts the difficulty level based on whether or not you get the right answer. It actually conforms to the person taking the test! I had done this before but was still nervous because I wanted to do well. The test took three days to complete because we had three different sections: Reading, Math, and Literacy. The test had a long duration and I think I did well. Also, this week our whole class made a video for our parents visit to the classroom. It was a hard project and took a long time but we got it done and I think my mom and dad will like it.
Besides these new activities, we continued to work hard in Chinese preparing for a presentation. We also did a math check point on patterns, diagrams and divisibility rules.
This week was an interesting week. There was ALOT of hard work …..I wonder what will happen next week.
This is the end of the second week of school. There were so many new activities and events that happened but here are some things that really stuck out.
Today, we had our first dress down day. Dress down day (DDD) is when instead wearing our uniforms, there is a theme and we wear clothes that relate to it. This dress down day. the theme was “House Colors” in order to build house spirit. During school, we had to change class name because it was culturally insensitive. We are now the 6A apps. Every morning we practice mindfulness so we are calm the whole day. Also during this week,we unpacked our central idea which is “developing self awareness can build healthy relationships”.
Earlier this week, there was a typhoon 10. We had to stay inside so school was canceled. During the typhoon I had 6 hours of work. Bummer! The typhoon killed 12 people in Macau. There is a chance that there will be another typhoon in a few days but right now not much is known.
My highlight of doing this was the fact that it was my first video I ever made to post on youtube. I felt that I was taking action by informing people about the problem and the organization and what it does. I was challenged by coming up with the ideas and rules and making the video because I had to make it and certain parts of it were hard. I learn that I am okay at editing a video for youtube. I developed myself being very reflective because I kept on watching and trying to find how to edit it. Out of this action I felt that I would want to action more because of this.
The thing I learnt most was that video games can make you the best you if you balance it out and not go 24/7 on video games. The best thing about this passion project session was being able to go all out on this topic for four weeks because that allowed use to do multiple tests.Next time I think that I will do a project that will require more details. ( This is me at my station with hordes of people)
My SMART goal is to read Chinese characters without pinyin by the end of the year. I will practice reading Chinese characters at least 10 minutes a day. I will make a checklist to keep tracking my Chines reading time.
Hello I am Brent. Some of my interest are greek mythology and coding. My favourite colour is neon green and this is my blog. In my first three weeks of school in CDNIS it have been fun and intriguing. We’ve been doing challenges and my favourite challenge was the marble challenge where we had two rolls of tape two news papers and a meter stick with that we had to make a ping pong ball roll down a 36 cm hight with one turn.So far I’ve enjoyed 5B. I am excited to see what the rest of year will bring!
