The Attack of the Tsunami

The Attack of the Tsunami

The day in Tokyo was very normal. It was very sunny and really peaceful where John’s family lived. John and his family moved from America to Japan because America had hurricanes and tornados that happens every year. John had finished his school and was at some store to buy some snacks. At school, they had a practice for preparing a Tsunami and a Earthquake. He learnt about how people can protect themselves in a Tsunami. He found a shop that sold candies and cakes.

As he went inside the shop, the shop started to wobble. Cakes and candies started to drop from the counter. First he thought a big truck was just passing by the shop but he heard a person that he learnt at school. “JISHIN!!!” (which meant Earthquake). He knew what he had to do, but he was too scared to do it. Then he saw a man who pushed him under a table. After he got pushed under the table, all the snacks and cakes were falling down he felt relieved that he got pushed. The signs and pictures on the wall were also falling down. About 5 minutes later, the Earthquake stopped, he was really relieved that the Earthquake has stopped. He went outside the shop, he saw most of the building has fallen. Some people were helping others to get out from the collapsed buildings. He saw other people running away from the shore. He didn’t know why they were doing that but a stranger came to me and told me something in Japanese. He didn’t know what he was talking about but He knew a word that he said “Tsunami”.

John didn’t run but walked away from shore, then people started screaming behind him. He looked behind him and he saw a massive wave of water coming up to him. The water carried big trees, cars and even some parts of buildings. I started sprinting away from shore up to the steep hill of a mountain. He still saw people trapped inside collapsed buildings. He wanted to help them but the Tsunami came closer and closer. When the Tsunami was about 10 meters close, Somebody on a motorbike caught him and put him behind the motorbike. He felt much safer because the motorbike was faster than the tsunami. After the motorbike stopped at the top of the mountain, he said thank you to the driver. He looked down at the city he was just at. All the buildings were collapsed and every place was flooded with water. He thought about his family, mom, dad and his little brother. He was really worried about his family, even his annoying little brother. A person gave him water, food and a sleeping bag. He couldn’t sleep for a long time and he saved the food for the next day.

It was 5am when he woke up. The sun was rising from the sea. He looked at the city again. The water was still there, he drank some water and ate some food. He saved some of the water and food for later. Around him some people were hurt and many other people were sleeping. John wondered where might his family be. In the water? Maybe in a campsite that might be safe? Or maybe somewhere he can’t even think of. Last time he saw his family at their house. John’s family all knew where to go when it was an emergency. Their family would all meet at the top of the hill of Shinagawa. It would be a long walk from here, so he asked a person who knew how to speak english. He asked the man if there is a transportation that leads to the top of the hill of Shinagawa. The man said “You can use one of the emergency boat to get around. I can ask a person who knows how to drive those stuff”. John and the man started to look for people who can drive the boat. It took ages looking for one, but the man finally found a Firefighter who knew how to drive the boat. John thanked the man and firefighter started the engine of the boat.

About 3pm, the boat reached the top of the hill. He got off the boat and ran to the meeting site. He saw a small campsite and there was about 10 to 12 people in the campsite. They were getting ready to eat dinner. The people in the campsite saw John, they came up to him. They said that their parents were there. John’s parents came out from the tent. John was very happy because all his parents were there. John’s family lived happily ever after.

Digital Ambassadors

Digital Ambassadors

In Digital Ambassadors, we are working on really cool things. Will first, Digital Ambassadors(DA) is a group of people who have been picked by the teacher and will work and learn more about digital things. I am one of the student who was picked. We are using a thing called Micro-Bit (Picture on top). We use the computer and code the things that we want the Micro-Bit to do. And we have to upload it to the Micro-Bit. We coded games, like rock paper scissors and other game. This is the link to the website that we use to code for Micro-Bit.

Scratch Coding

Scratch Coding

On Tuesday May 16th, We had our coding class. In coding class, we adding on to what we are doing on Challenge 2. In Challenge 2, we have to make a code that draws words. In my project, I have finished drawing a A, B, C, D, and O (This is the Link to the project). I am really looking forward to finishing my project for Challenge 2. At school, We are learning about the coordinates and other things that you might need for the code. It was really easy for me because I have done the same thing in a place where you learn how to code. Instead of making more words, I have been helping others to make their code better and also solve problems in their code. If I have more time, I would really like to make my codes better and make the words look realistic.

Overall, I think I have been helping others and our class has been cooperating and they are also curious about for the code.

Learning of this week (May 7, May 12)

Learning of this week (May 7, May 12)

This week, we went to a event named See, Think, Wonder. There were stations at the event. One of them was the green screen photograph. I took photos that cannot be done in real life. The picture on top is the photograph that I took. There were also other stations like 3doodler, a place to use instruments and other station. We went there to see the stations because our art teacher was very busy and we couldn’t have class, so the teacher told us that we can go to the event. I chose to write about this because I really liked what was in the event. It was interesting to see things that we can’t do in our daily lives. I didn’t really learn anything but the part that I really liked was when we got to do things.

The other thing that I really liked was the presentation of natural disasters in HK. The person who presented this is Mr. Still. Mr Still was a policeman at Tai Po but he retired and he is now telling other people and students about the natural disasters and how we can stand in these types of natural disasters in HK. We went to the presentation because we are learning about natural disasters. I chose to write about this because was very interesting to hear the presentation and his stories about being a policeman. I learnt about natural disasters that can happen in HK and videos about other natural disasters.

Overall, on this week I have learnt a lot of things about natural disasters in HK.

Reflection of the week (Mon, May Ist/Fri, May 2nd)

Reflection of the week (Mon, May Ist/Fri, May 2nd)

This week was a short week because there was Buddha’s day and Labour’s day, but we did many things.

The first thing that I want to show you is coding. On the last post, I think I posted a blog post of the tessellation. I really like coding, because I go to First coding to learn Java. We are using Scratch to code things. The picture on top is my tessellation. We are doing this because it is helping our mathematics and it is fun to use coding to make things. I chose to write about this because I like to do coding. I still knew a lot of Scratch coding, but I still learnt a lot because we don’t usually use so much math in First code.

The second thing is in Visual Arts. We learnt about Leonardo Da Vinci. We did it because we are learning about artist. We learnt about the mysteries of Mona Lisa. We also learnt he was an inventor too. I chose to write about this because I like to learn about the paintings that artists and what artist draw. I also like about the history of things, like paintings and invention.

Overall I had a great week by learning about these things

We used scratch to make a tessellation. The tessellation can be made forever but if it touches the edge, it ruins the tessellation. On the first time I just made a shape but I tried and tried and thinked and actually, I made the tessellation. The hardest part was to calculate the degrees and the steps to calculate. I used the clues that Ms Fung told us. I learnt about the codes that makes the code. Because I finished the challenge. I am trying to make arrangements to make it much more creative and much more fun.

Performing arts Light paintings

In PA (performing arts), We are doing dance unit which we make our own dance with a group. With the dance, we are going to make a light painting. A light painting is made in a dark room and for this to work out, we need light to make the painting (Glow Sticks) and stick them onto your body. We need to take photographs and this will make the light painting. We will need a app to make the light painting. One app that you can also use is Light Bomber. At our school, we are focusing on patterns and shapes that we can make in the light painting.

We had a process to make our dance. First, we learnt how to draw the people in the drawing. Our teacher told us not to draw stick mans and not to draw too realistic that will take a hour to draw. She teached us a simple way to draw people. It was easier to see and it was really neat when she showed us. Using what we learnt in the first part, we used a storyboard to plan our ideas and bring them together. In the storyboard, we drew how the dance is shown and the important details can be written on the bottom of the drawing. When our group finished the storyboard, it was very neat and everyone could have understand it. When we finished the storyboard, we rehearsed with our group. We did it many times and as we practiced, we got better and better. Next class, we will be able to make the light painting using a app. I am very excited to see what our painting will look like when we finished.

What we did this week (Wed 18th-Fri 21th)

What we did this week (Wed 18th-Fri 21th)

This week in Visual art, we learnt about a famous painter named Matisse. He started painting when he was very young, but when he got older, he got cancer, meaning he couldn’t paint anymore, but he started making cutouts of pictures. He cut paper and he taped it on his canvas and also on walls of his house. We did this activity because to learn about famous painters and how the painters drew and the type of art he drew. I chose to write about this topic because it was very educational to me and it is fun to learn about other painters. First we watched a video on Youtube about his paintings and his cutouts and then we tried to use his idea and make cutouts of beautiful places or some students made random cutouts. It was very fun to make the cutouts and I felt very creative and enthusiastic about this learning of Matisse.

What we learnt this week(Mar 20/Mar 24)

What we learnt this week(Mar 20/Mar 24)

This week, the thing that I learnt the most is in Visual arts. We learnt about a famous painter, Vincent van Gogh. We learnt what paintings he drew and what was his life. I chose to write about this because I think it was very educational and very fun to learn about his life and his paintings. We watched a video about him and we also read a book about a story based on him. I learnt about his life and his life was very poor. He drew paintings that was very weird like the Starry Night. When he was alive, everybody was into realistic painting and sketches. But because he drew paintings that were different, people in those times didn’t like what he drew. He couldn’t sell most of his paintings, so I learnt that he had a very hard life.

Ecosystems Mind-Map

Ecosystems Mind-Map

This mind-map on the top is the mind-map I made in Brain pop. I have used words and colour to represent the meaning. Red is for main things, green is for examples, and dotted lines are for  things leading to little examples.

Ecosystems is categorised in by the amount of rainfall and sunlight they get, and the condition of the soil. One of the examples for ecosystems are water ecosystems like ponds, lakes, rivers and ocean. These ecosystems interact with each other. In deserts, there are living and nonliving things. Deserts also don’t get much rain so they have very little water. Living things that live in these condition have to be able to survive without water for a long time. The soil is delicate and not very good for growing things. But they have a community of plants and animals that have adapted and lives in these places. For example, Cacti can store water, kangaroo rats sleeps underground where it’s cooler than outside where it’s burning hot and owls prey at night when the sun goes down. Community is also divided into different population. Population is made up of just one type of organism. These organisms has it’s own home. These homes are called habitats. For example, scorpions habitats is in sand.
