Our Fashion Show

Hello and Happy Chinese New Year (Happy Australia’s Day a bit late for that). Before the CNY break, we had a lot of things to do and one of the most important ones was the AIR (Artists in Residence). We had a Fashion Show and we had to make our own clothes (we had to still wear real clothes under) using recyclable stuff. Our group agreed to make a rugby T-shirt, but they didn’t show us any boys examples, so we had to create it by ourselves.

We made our T-shirt and pants using recycled paper. It was a very bad idea to use paper for the pants because it kept on ripping but the T-shirt was fine and very well looking. We wrote numbers on the back (just like real players) and we also put our company name (it’s not a real name) Hong Kong Rugby Sportswear.

We actually did really good on that project, but days before the fashion show (As you know) the Hong Kong Government shut down all schools because of influenza going on in Hong Kong. Our school is a private school, (I don’t know why) but they shut down our school too and our fashion show was canceled. We were very disappointed because we worked very hard on our clothes. We were still happy too because we had 1 more week added to our CNY holiday. I think this week was a very happy and disappointing week.

The Guest Speaker

The Guest Speaker

This week, we had a guest speaker today. This guest speaker’s name is David Livingstone. He was a child soldier and he has escaped and made a organisation which is helping child soldiers out of their very dangerous circumstances. The organisation’s name is Salt & Light®. He has been a child soldier and had to go through his early days. These circumstances include killing his friends, shooting with guns and walking for one week without a break. This was very hurting for me because I have never knew these very violent things were happening in the world and even to kids. He has said that these kids were not able to go to school and have education. These people will grow up without knowing how to even read or write. This means that child soldiers is a very big problem because they cannot go to school. If these people were able to escape the war zone, they would need to walk to the central city. If they go thought that, they would be arrested because the government will think that you are a spy who is spying on the central city. This would mean going to a war prison. They mostly die in the prison camp because of starvation but this person was very lucky and was let go by a old man in the prison. Now that I have listened to David Livingstone, I have now felt like I would want people to take action into child soldiers. I feel that other people need to know about this act and everyone is going to make actions to help these children escape the war and put them into school to have education have a great future. This blog post is not about telling you about the guest speaker. This blog post is to RAISE AWARENESS in child soldiers. I think this is a very important task to do even before solving other problems. These children has a future.

Visual Art project

Visual Art project

In our Unit of Inquiry, we are working a project (My project is the picture on the top). This is a peace flag that I have made. It was also my first project to use the sewing machine. I sewed most of my things using my hand. It was really cool to use the sewing machine. The sewing machine was really cool because it all moved my itself. I have only saw my mom using the sewing machine but this time I did it by myself. I have researched a lot of peace signs and other things related to peace. I have used cloth markers and also used felt and clothes. We made our backgrounds by dipping paint in our piece.

My favourite part of this week

This week was a very long week. The part that I really liked when we were getting ready for our presentation. Me and my friend got ready for our presentation. We are presenting about our UOI. In our UOI, we chose to learn and research about child trafficking. We have found a lot of information about child trafficking. We are using Google Slides to make presentation. Our presentation contained a lot of information and told about what was happening to these people who were getting trafficked. Our goal is to raise more awareness into child trafficking. Child trafficking is really major in India, so I would really want people to tell the government in India to try to take action into child trafficking. I think we are going to be great when we present our presentation. I am looking forward to it.

Camp in Tai Tam

This week, the whole Grade 5 went to camp at Tai Tam. I think that camp was fun but some parts I felt were very boring and not fun for me. Things that were very fun were when we were able to make fire with metal. Parts that I didn’t like is like the food there. I really hated the food there. The spaghetti was overcooked and the cereal was actually not good at all. The food that I liked the most was the rice that we ate on the first day.

Something that challenged me is when we had to wash our own dishes. I have learnt some ways to wash the dishes. I have never washed many dishes in my life.

Digital Ambassadors

Digital Ambassadors

In Digital Ambassadors, we are working on really cool things. Will first, Digital Ambassadors(DA) is a group of people who have been picked by the teacher and will work and learn more about digital things. I am one of the student who was picked. We are using a thing called Micro-Bit (Picture on top). We use the computer and code the things that we want the Micro-Bit to do. And we have to upload it to the Micro-Bit. We coded games, like rock paper scissors and other game. This is the link to the website that we use to code for Micro-Bit.

Reflection of the week (May 15, May19)

Reflection of the week (May 15, May19)

This week, we did robotics with my friend. Instead of doing some code for the robots, we made costumes for our robots. We are also reviewing on our code so there are no mistakes. Our code is long so it took a bit of time to review. Our group is also choosing the costumes for our robots. I am very excited to do the dance challenge. If our group can win, It will be very grateful.

Another thing that we did is that we started the natural disaster expert group. Our group is going to present about volcanoes. We have to do a research about volcanoes and then present the what we learnt. We didn’t have enough time to do research so we just worked on the plans for the project like: How to present the research or how we can cooperate everyone in the project.

Scratch Coding

Scratch Coding

On Tuesday May 16th, We had our coding class. In coding class, we adding on to what we are doing on Challenge 2. In Challenge 2, we have to make a code that draws words. In my project, I have finished drawing a A, B, C, D, and O (This is the Link to the project). I am really looking forward to finishing my project for Challenge 2. At school, We are learning about the coordinates and other things that you might need for the code. It was really easy for me because I have done the same thing in a place where you learn how to code. Instead of making more words, I have been helping others to make their code better and also solve problems in their code. If I have more time, I would really like to make my codes better and make the words look realistic.

Overall, I think I have been helping others and our class has been cooperating and they are also curious about for the code.

Grade 1 Spotlight Show

Grade 1 Spotlight Show

On Tuesday, May 9th, Our learning buddies and other classes from Grade 1 performed a spotlight at the LLAC. I really think that the our buddies including the other classes did a amazing job at performing and showing what they learnt about. They have learnt about the the environment and how they can help to save nature. They told a story about villagers in india trying to help save the trees. My learning buddy really preformed well. He was really committed on what he was doing in the performance. They also used puppets for some parts of the story.

Overall, I think our learning buddies (including the other classes and my learning buddy) did a very good job on presenting their work by making a spotlight.
