After we have been introduced to this project, as a team, we made mind maps of what we know about the project, what we want to know and where to find information.
We have also created a few prototypes of the valves.
My Key Takeaways from today was the task we will be working on for the next few weeks during science class. We were to explain and demonstrate the function and movements of the heart’s valve to grade 7s. We need to design a model that allows only a one-way flow of blood. I have understood the importance of teamwork throughout the process of creating prototypes.
If I could do it all again, I would have made sure I have done research about creating hard valves online to get inspiration before starting to create our prototypes. I would have also revisited the design and scientific requirements and to make sure our mockups meet those requirements.
I used to think that teachers are just exaggerating the effectiveness of communication. Now I think that communication is truly important. Without this skill, we wouldn’t have been able to complete our first prototype successfully.
Which elements worked in your first Prototype?
Our first prototype was successful in terms of its design. Although it doesn’t seem to be appealing, we have created a one-way valve. As shown above, we put a balloon with a hole at the bottom inside a glove and both of them are connected to the tube with the help of tape and rubber bands.
