How has the content covered in class so far (theory and performance) helped your development as a musician?
The content covered in class has made me understand more about the history of music and help further my development. The theory taught in class has helped to gain new insights through restudying old material. Since I have stopped playing any instrument five years ago because of lack of practise and I had too many extra curriculum activities going on, I forgot how does the sharps or flats in the scales works (TTSTTTS). Throughout the classes, we have played a collection of pieces and performances that helped me pick up my sight reading skills, building up confidence and no to panic when something goes wrong during the performance. During the winter concert, I asked someone to hold onto my clarinet because I had choir performance before the grade 8 band performance, unfortunately when I got my clarinet back, the reed was chipped. I was so nervous because I forgot to bring extra reeds. I had to blow really hard but it sounds airy. I managed to calm down and learn from my mistakes.
Discuss the ways in which you are furthering your development as a musician.
In order to further my development as a musician, I will start practising clarinet more frequently (30 mins a day) and started regular lessons on clarinet to prepare for the grade 5 clarinet exam and the theory exam.
Discuss how other musicians have inspired you to be more successful (consider musician in your class and/or in the school and/or outside of school).
I really admire the pianist Yiruma because his music are really touching and the melody was absolutely amazing. I am obsessed with his musics because everytime I listen to his music, it gives me motivations for studying. River flows in you is one of the few songs that can make you smile when you want to smile and cry when you want to cry.
