TOK: Geography HL

“All models are wrong but some are useful.” Explain what this quote means with reference to specific models in your Group 3 subject and your Group 4 subject.

When looking at models in the Human Sciences, it is often useful to compare them to the controlled nature of the Natural Sciences. This quote means that even though models can never apply to every context, some are useful to humans. If we define useful as applicability, we can evaluate the qualities of good models, and how it relates to the Natural Sciences. To get a better understanding of why certain models are useful, refer to the original presentation below. Note that it evaluates the same principles, but in theories instead of models, which can also be predictive as well as explanatory.
