Term 2 Design Day – Creating a report

by Jocelyn on January 6, 2015

Today, we were introduced to our second and final design project, creating a report suggesting a change to some aspect of CDNIS or a tourist destination. For this project, the main program we will be using is Adobe InDesign, software that many large companies use to create reports, pamphlets, yearbooks and more. After using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop in the previous design unit, I have now become quite familiar with the interface and tools.

In today’s design day, we looked at some of last year’s products, learned some techniques for Adobe InDesign and decided what our report would address. I decided to use my data from our geography assignment, suggesting an improvement to the shopping mall, Times Square. In terms of InDesign, I learned many new skills. For example, creating page numbers, creating masters and making a drop cap. All of this will be very useful when creating my final product, but I still need to do some research into different colour palettes I will use, effective fonts, and what layouts make an effective report.

Graphic Novel Design Project

December 18, 2014

This year’s design project was the first one I was quite comfortable with, as I sometimes do digital drawings in my spare time. However, I still learned a lot and improved my skills during the creation stage of my graphic novel sequence. One of the most significant things I learned was how long it takes to design, […]

Static electricity introduction!

December 4, 2014

In the past two science classes, we have been playing with different experiments using static electricity!  What we did today confirmed what I already knew about static electricity, but left me with some questions, too. One of the stations was a device called a Van de Graaff. Below the sphere, inside the tube, there is a band […]

Design Day – Using Adobe Illustrator and Gantt Charts

October 30, 2014

Today we began our first design unit for G9! This year, we’re going to be creating a two-page comic for a part of the book we’ve been reading, “The Cellist of Sarajevo”, by Steven Galloway. The comic will be done on Adobe Illustrator, so first we learned how to use the pen tool to outline […]

Art Modern Masterpiece

June 6, 2014

For this project, we had to choose a famous artist and do a painting in their style. We had to think about what the artist would paint about if they were alive today. I chose to do Edward Hopper. I knew that he was a realist who liked to paint people in their everyday lives. […]

Art 3 sketches

June 6, 2014

One of our art assignments was to do three sketches. One would be done in pencil, to focus on lighting, shading and shadows. The next was texture, where we focused on implied texture. I thought that a snake’s skin had a very unique texture. Finally, our last sketch was a colour sketch.

Criterion D Reflection

June 4, 2014

I think I should get a 7/8 for Criterion D because I practice at home and do all the work and studying that needs to be done for Music Class. I am not at a level 8 because I don’t participate a lot in class, and I should have practiced my clarinet a lot more […]

Final playing test and theory test reflection

June 4, 2014

Here is my grade for the playing test. We had to play C major, C harmonic minor and C melodic minor, as well The Sorcerer’s Apprentice song. I was happy with the grade I got because I had practiced these scales and song a lot. Even though I started practicing a few days before the […]

Modernday Mashup

May 25, 2014

One of our projects this year in art class was the Modernday mashup. This was when we chose an artist and tried to paint what we think they would have painted if they were still living today, especially modern issues or modern icons. The artist I chose was the realist painter, Edward Hopper. I knew […]

Chinese improvements

May 25, 2014

This year, I have learned and improved a lot in Chinese class. The area I think I have developed the most is in speaking. We did a lot more oral projects and presentations compared to last year in my old school, which has helped me become more fluent and comfortable in speaking in Mandarin. What […]
