In Syria the civil war is causing more poverty, and that is the cause of Child Labour. I am researching child labour and that falls under children’s right. Child labour is increasing and I will have to debate about this issue and different countries debate about there children’s rights issue. We also created a clause and position paper and I started learning more about Syria

During this trip, we did many activities and one of them was playing with the kids in the Hui Nam Yuen school. There was a girl called Sai Pin who I got to know. She was 11 years old and wants to become a teacher when she grows up. A lot of the children’s parents were farmers, unlike in Hong Kong a lot of the children’s parents work somewhere else. There kitchen was also small, and not so clean. In CDNIS we have a big kitchen thats why we were building a new kitchen for them and my group made 17 bricks! A hard part of the trip for me was the hike. The starting was easy because we were going downhill but towards the end it got pretty steep. The good part was that it wasn’t a very long uphill hike. Usually my helper would make my bed and help clean, but in the trip I had to make my own bed and clean up my own mess.

A learner profile attribute I showed was risk taker. We had to go on a confidence course which was walking on a chain and holding a rope, then swinging to the next stop by a rope, walking on a beam, and then monkey bars or rings. I was nervous for this because if you fall you fall in water with tadpoles. I didn’t really want to fall but I still wanted to do it so I tried. I went once and did a 360 turn on the beam and didn’t fall. My second turn I walked backwards on beam and did rings, I still didn’t fall. My third turn I closed my eyes on beam and did monkey bars backwards, and I still didn’t fall. Afterwards, I wanted to try more with even more challenges!

I also thought that I was a thinker on this trip because during rock climbing sometimes the rocks would get small and there would be less rocks. I wouldn’t know what to do but instad of freaking out I would think about it and then go. Overall, the trip was really fun and kayaking was the best for me:)

On the stress and learning graph I would probably choose 4 as a stress level. I thought that converting fractions to decimals, and dividing decimals was the hardest for me. Multiplying decimals was pretty easy unless I got some calculation errors. I thought that converting fractions to decimals was hard because I would always get mixed up with the conversions and if I’m dividing, I seem to make a mistake. I always am confused about where to put the decimal point. Even though it might be very simple, I always put the decimal point in the wrong place. I find multiplying easy because it’s like multiplying normal numbers and then counting the decimal places. I tried practicing at home and in class, but on the test I always make mistakes. I think I could have tried harder and done better by practicing more. I like the M&M activity because we could learn and get to eat M&M’s!

I really liked how in the book The Other Side of Truth it had lots of meaning and everything that was in the book wasn’t just thrown in there, it was there for a reason. It also had a story that you could understand and it was very clear. In this project, we had to make a movie about refugees. We all had a question and what I focused on is How Difficult is it For Refugees to leave North Korea? This was connected to the book a little because in our movie we talked about what were the difficulties and in The Other Side of Truth they are talking about the difficulties they have to go through to leave their country. For the movie, we used Talking Tom and Ben News, below where they are sitting it can show pictures and we put in different pictures about what we are talking about.

In this project we got to learn more about refugees. Reading The Other Side of Truth also gave us lots of information about refugees which helped with our project. I think that more people including me are aware of refugees and whats going on around the world. I think that this project gave us good knowledge and we also might have learned many different information that we never knew before, like there are 50,000 North Koreans hiding in China

I wish that I could have learned a little more about the star ferry and the clock tower, I also wish that I could have watched maybe 1 more documentary for another example of what it could be like and what to include.

What if we got to learn a little more technical skills to make sure when we film our documentary the lighting, sound, how still the camera is will be good.

In tap class we have been talking about our habits, we talked about what bad habits can be like and what good habits are. My goal is to improve my habits to become more confident and organized. One of my habits that I need to work on is finishing my homework on time without any distractions. Usually when i’m doing homework sometimes I would need help so I would go on social media to ask friends but I usually end up chatting with them for a while. I also sometimes stop homework for a while and get a mini break and do something else, when I get back to doing homework I regret it because then I know I need to use extra time to finish my homework. This also happened to me a few days ago when I went on social media to ask my friend for homework help and then she asked me for help and then we started chatting. When I looked back at the clock I had wasted about 20 minutes. This is a bad habit because it will take a longer time to finish homework and I will get used to this habit and it will eventually become worse. I might not be able to concentrate on my homework a lot because of the distractions. Also, too much social media isn’t that great, even though I don’t go on social media a lot I think I should go on it after I finish all my homework if need to. I can change this habit by using a app called “Self Control”. My classmate introduced it to the class and you can make a blacklist and put in the links of all the websites that distracts you and you can set a time and you won’t be able to go to that website even if you restart your computer or go on another browser. You can block the websites from 15 minutes to a day. If I start using “Self Control” I can finish my homework faster and have more time for activities and extra effort on homework. Another habit that I have to work on is participating more in class. I need to raise my hand more and ask questions infront of the class and answer questions. When a teacher asks the questions sometimes I know the answer and I don’t raise my hand because I think the answer might not be right, but I learned that it’s not always about the answer being right, I also need to try to answer sometimes. Although sometimes I do know the answer but I get nervous to talk infront of the class. I don’t get shy to talk infront of small groups I just get shy when it comes to the whole class. Today in French class I knew some of the answers but I was too scared to answer. If I don’t participate more in class I will get more and more nervous and I will make it rare to raise my hand. I should start now so I can improve it and hopefully later on I will become more confident talking infront of the class and explaining without getting very nervous. I also need to raise my hand even if I think my answer might not be correct I should at least try. I really want to put lots of effort into this because if I’m like this all the time I don’t get to express what I feel. After learning more about habits in tap I realized I have to change my bad habits and make them good habits very soon.

In out patterns unit I liked how we got to use different methods of learning. We used cubes, tiles, and in-put out-put tables.

What did you like least?

I didn’t really like that we did the same things almost every class, some questions were really hard and I wish we could have focused on those more and how to solve them.

What do you think you learned really well?

I think I got to know the in-put out-put tables better and the ages of the cubes

What questions do you still have?

Is there a trick in the in-put out-put tables that you can use to figure out the rules?

Why is the study of Patterns important? How has it or can it help you in life?

Lots of things in life have patterns. Maybe daily routines and you might need to use some math for it. If you want to calculate something example the distance from Kowloon to Hong Kong you might find out that there is a McDonalds every 2km then 3km then 2km and the pattern continues.

This is the age of cubes that we learned about. There is a pattern in each column of how the cubes grow.
