Mockingjay

by 110074 on May 17, 2012

Mockingjay is getting sooooo boring. I don’t think I want to read it anymore! Everyone says it gets better in the end. But I can’t stand having to wait for it to be interesting. It has to be the whole way. I want it to be filled with action. But it’s just all the characters are sitting around plotting to kill President Snow. Plus, Peeta is not really in the book as much as he used to. This is like a never ending book. Uhhhhhhhhhhhh:(

Mockingjay

by 110074 on May 3, 2012

Well… I haven’t quite finished this book yet because we only got to read for one day. I kind of don’t think it’s that interesting because there is not as much action because Katniss and Peeta are not fighting as much anymore. Also, now it’s “Katniss and Gale”, it used to be “Katniss and Peeta”. I don’t get why people like Gale better than Peeta. I mean Peeta is way nicer and friendlier than Gale. Ooookay, back to the story. I just don’t think the plot is that interesting. It’s basically about trying to kill President Snow. Do you know what that means? Katniss is sitting in boring meetings discussing strategies and what they need etc. That’s what happens most of the time. Other than that I think the book is OK. I always feel sad when I read the Hunger Games because either someone’s feeling blue or something bad always happens every 3 minutes in the book. Anyways, what I’m saying is that the first 2 books are more interesting than this one. :(

The Hunger Games Book #2: Catching Fire

by 110074 on April 26, 2012

OMG!! I finished this book in 2 days. Just like the first one, it was additcing. I think this is a great sequel to the first one because it shows that the nightmare’s not over for Katniss yet. What I mean is Katniss has to go and fight in the games again! There’s actually a promise that the victors weren’t supposed to compete in the games again but President Snow was so angry at Katniss for making him look bad with the berries last year and because this year is the quarter quell which means the gamemakers can do anything they wanted to with the games…so the president had the gamemakers make one girl and one boy victor from each dictrict to fight in the games. Since Katniss was the only girl victor, she had to fight, and since Peeta loves Katniss, he volunteers to replace Haymitch from the games. I think that was really nice of Peeta to risk his life just to save Katniss. I just think Peeta is the nicest guy in the world. Anyways, I really enjoyed reading Catching Fire because every little thing about the book is soo interesting.

Reading Reflection: The Hunger Games

by 110074 on April 19, 2012

Hey! I just finished the The Hunger Games 2 minutes ago. So much suspense!!!!! I couldn’t put the book down once until I was finished. I am going to start the 2nd book right after this. So……I guess you’re wondering what this book is about. It’s about what the future may be like in North America which is bad. Every year, the Capitol picks one boy and one girl from 12~18 years old in each of the 12 districts to go into an arena and fight until only one person alive. Terrible right? It just shows how bad the government can be and how much power they have over everyone. Anyways, this girl from district 12 called Katniss Everdeen volunteers for her sister in the Hunger Games since her sister, Prim, get chosen. Katniss is a skilled hunter so she has a good chance of making it out of the games…. and that’s all I can tell you!:)

SLLR Reflection

by 110074 on April 18, 2012

Today we had our Student Led Learning Reviews which shows our parents the work that we did throughout the year. I showed my mom some pieces of work on each subject we do at school. I was really nervous because I was afraid my mom wouldn’t like the work that I was showing her. But when I started showing my work to her, she was very interested in my learning and asked many questions. I was so relieved. Whenever I made a mistake she never got angry at me. She just laughed. The SLLRs weren’t that bad after all.
My Mom:
I was impressed by the breath and depth of work done by Ashley and her classmates in the last 10 months.  The SLLR is an effective way to give parents an overview.   It was fun to watch her calculate the mean/median/mode of the beep test scores of 5A; what a little walking calculator : )   The little music composition was very enjoyable – what a cool software.   But I have to admit that I was disappointed that the questions relating to the Chinese map was written in pinyin without any tones which made the reading rather inaccurate.  Maybe consider using a Chinese software that allows use of characters?  Most of all, the unit on children’s rights I think is most important and more impactful on the kids’ learning and their growth into little adults.   Great job!

Garage Band

by 110074 on March 29, 2012

Textploration is awesome!! I know that some of you don’t know what it is. It’s when you look at any application on the computer and try it. Today I explored garage band. If you like to make music, I recommend garage band. You can do so many things on it like making songs, learning how to play an instrument and making ringtones for your iphone. There are many instruments that you can use. You can also record your own voice. This is what it looks like when you make it.

Iqbal Reflection

by 110074 on March 27, 2012

Today our class has just finished reading Iqbal. It is a very touching book and has really made me be more thankful to everything I have. It is about a real person’s life called Iqbal Masih. It is told by one of his close friends, Fatima. In the story, Iqbal, Fatima, and some other kids are forced to work in a carpet factory to pay their families dept in Pakistan. The master promises them that if the tallies on the slate get erased, they will be free and go back to their families. Iqbal is very brave and smart so he knows that the tallies will never be erased. You’re wondering why I think he’s brave…he actually had the courage to rip that beautiful carpet and risk get throwing into the tomb. I would never have the courage to do that. I also think he’s brave because he also tried to escape every chance he could and help all the kids get freed. I admire that about him. Iqbal also had alot of hope. He always thought that he could be freed and tried so hard. In the end, he actually succeeded. It was a miracle. After that, when he was freed, he even wanted to help other children get freed from child labor. The end of the book depresses me. It’s so unfair how Iqbal is the one who has to get murdered. He’s been helping the world from child slavery. I guess I can see it from the Carpet Mafia point of view but I still think it was very wrong for them to kill him.

Just Finished Alex Rider #1

by 110074 on March 22, 2012

Hi Everyone! I never knew Alex Rider was going to be this interesting. I read so many books at one time. I just ditched Artemis Fowl for Alex Rider because I wanted to get over with it. But when I started to read it again, it got more interesting because there is so much action happening in the book. Like when Alex does his training with the adults to be a spy or when he climbs around the building with the risk of dying. There’s also a sad side to this story because Alex has to leave his house and is forced to go to China and spy on Stormbreaker which is a computer that the some people think has a dangerous device inside. Also Alex get treated really badly when he has to do training. His housekeeper had to leave the house too. Almost all the characters in this book have different sides or don’t say who they really are. It’s creepy. I really like this book because of that. Oh yeah. One more thing, there is alot of mystery in this book too.

UOI Reflection: Waste Management

by 110074 on March 15, 2012

I really enjoyed our last unit that was about waste management. It was so interesting to learn about how people deal with our garbage, where it goes after we through it away, and how it effects us and the environment. The only thing that scared me was doing a speech in front of the speech. I think almost everyone was scared. This unit was more interesting than the other units because we went on many field trips to many different places. For example, we went to the SENT landfill, the Eco Park, or Yan Oi Tong Plastic Recycling Center to learn about the six different waste management strategies. They are: recycling, incineration, landfills, dumping, composting, and reduce and reuse. We studied about the advantages and disadvantages of all of them for our summative assessment which was the  persuasive speech. We had to do the persuasive speech on a topic that we didn’t know about until 4 days before. It was really hard for me because I was absent for 2 days and the teacher got sick or didn’t have time to do it so I did it just yesterday. I was under sooooo much pressure and was soooooo scared. I’m still scared to do another speech if we have to. I hate speeches. I think this unit is the best one we’ve had so far because I’ve learnt so much.
