Sports Day!

by 100300 on April 15, 2012

Yesterday was grade 5 and 6 Sports Day! We had lots of field activities as well as running two track events (one Sprint: 100 or 200, and one Long Distance: 400 or 800). Grade 6 did the track events first. I chose to do the 800 and the 200 because I’m more of a long distance than a sprinter. I came first in the 800! My time was 2 minutes and 51 seconds. The boy who came first in the boys 800 got 2 minutes 50 seconds. One second faster than I was. Then came the 400. My two best friends: Hannah and Renee, both came 3rd in their own heat. After the 400 was the 200 which I ran for my sprinting. I came first and Yan Yan came way less than a second behind me. Then came the 100 which I didn’t really watch because I was refilling my water bottle.

After the track events came the field things. Our class first did tug-of-war. We did boys against girls (girls won! :D ), then we did it by houses, red (which was me) and yellow against green and blue. (green and blue won) Then we did Red and Green against Blue and Yellow (I think blue and yellow won). Next after tug-of-war was hopping bag thingy. (I truthfully have no idea what they are called) It was relays and we had to hop in the bag around the cone and back. (my team didn’t do really well ;) ) After the jumping sack thingy was Capture the Flag! (In my opinion the best field activity there is!) We played against 6B (we won!) and 6D (we won that one too!). After two rounds of capture the flag, then came the ball throwing (I really suck at that! ;) ) and after running long jump which I think I did pretty well in! That was it for field events!

After field events came the relays! All I can say was the girls relay for our class (which I was in as well as Yan Yan, Maya, and Nicole. Rachel as a sub) didn’t have great luck. Sure we got in 2nd place, but Maya got sick, Rachel who would have filled in for her, twisted her ankle so that is when Hannah came in. She wasn’t to happy at first (don’t ask me why because I really don’t know!) but I talked her into running. We came up with a good strategy for our order: Yan Yan was to go first to give us a boost, then Nicole, next would come Hannah, followed by me to cross the finish line.

I thought sports day was a lot of fun and can’t wait till next year!

Sports day ROCKED!!! Would love to have it again some time soon… My third place was awesome, but I mean, compared to your 1st place, I still have a long way to go! Keep Running!
