While composing this eight bar piece, I focused on crating a repeating an s similar four bar pattern. I did this by copying and pasting the four bar pattern across lines 5-8. Obviously now lines 1-4 and 5-8 are different because I kept the general rhythm the same making both sections identifiable to being the same song. The main thing that I changed was I started to change the mood of the song to being a little calmer. I did this by slowing the melody down through turning lots of quarter notes and eighth notes into half notes, I also did this by creating more of a smooth tone by getting rid of the large jumps in notes and making them follow a more smooth up and down pattern.
This is the feedback Mr. Dacho gave me.
“It appears your melody is in G major since you start on G and end on B. Therefore, the G-flat in measure 7 should be an F# – and a key signature would take care of this accidental for you. Rhythmically, measure 1 and 5 is awkwardly written. A dotted eighth should be followed by a sixteenth. ”
Fallowing Mr. Dacho’s feedback I decided to completely change measure one from a melodic perspective because one of the general rules of compositions is that if you cannot clearly count where each of the four beats per measure begin and end. I did this by getting rid of the two dotted eighth notes and changing them to quarter notes and eighth notes. I also changed the rest on measure 5 to a more smooth tone by getting rid of large jumps between notes.
Cherilyn: I like how you place a half note at the end of your fourth and eight bars to symbolize the end of your repeating melody. I think you can improve your song by getting rid of the sixteenth rest on the fifth line.
Ary: I like how your composition doesn’t suddenly have large jumps between notes and is generally pretty smooth.
Again to add more measures to my song without completely loosing the melody and rhythm by copying and pasting lines 1-8 to lines 9-16 and then changing some of the melody rhythm.
My composition is 16 bars long. It is a repetition of an original four bar melody with small changes each repetition. To make the end of each repetition of four bars clear and settling to the audience. Another thing that I worked on was making sure that it was easy to be able to see the beginning of all four notes making it feel more complete for the audience. Another thing that I focused on was making sure that a similar rhythm repeated each 4 bars to make sure all parts are recognizable as part of the main song because they have a similar rhythm to them.
On Tuesday I went to revision with Mr. Dacho to practice the three high notes on the test, which are “C+D and a B natural”. Mr. Dacho gave me two ways of practicing these high notes at home.
1.Play the low, medium and the high version of notes that have the same fingering.
For example: C+G+C
2. Play the full chord, so you only have to go up one town to reach the high notes.
I practiced playing the C and G using both methods Mr. Dacho taught me. At the end of the day I spent a little over 40 minutes. In the end I was able to sometimes hit the C but I rarely could hit the G.
Again I practiced using C and G with the methods Mr. Dacho taught me. After about 40 minutes of practice I could hit C and G usually, the few times I couldn’t hit the note was because the sound would keep slipping from a high C to a low G really quickly.
Today is the deadline to submit my recording. I realize that I poorly managed my time on Wednesday and Thursday and should have spent less time practicing the high notes and should have just worked on the melody, slurs and pitch of the song. I practiced Melody, slurs and pitch for about an hour, when it came time to record the line I had practiced for so long t was hard to play because my embouchure was extremely tired. After listening to my final recording I was not very happy because I don’t think I hit any of the high notes and it sounded like a loud crackling sound.
In this unit me and my group created a key note presentation and a poster to show our knowledge of instrument care. Our poster and presentation talked about cleaning, maintenance, parts, environmental effects and materials of our instruments. I think that our keynote succeed according to the criteria a rubric.

The area that we struggled in was environmental impacts because we though that point in the rubric was referring to what environments you pay your instrument in and who it would affect, once we figured out what the rubric was actually referring to by watching other groups we fixed the environmental section but is was rushed. I think overall my group did well because during the class time we had we all concentrated during the full class and
In the test “Time, place and space” I got 38/40=8/8. I am very happy with this grade because I studied for this test a lot and this is my best score that I have gotten in music. I expected to get a 7 or 8 because I studied everything that we learned in class at home, also during the test I felt like I knew everything and was confident with my answers. I prepared for this assessment by after each class going home and reviewing what we learnt in class; also everything on the test was on the practice worksheets so we had already covered it in class. I will prepare for the next summative by writing down all of the rules that I learnt in the unit and then use that sheet to study for the test.
Before the assessment I could not play most of the high notes like c and d so I had to practice playing those notes but it took a long time because when I tried to blow hard to play the high notes the trumpet would kind of squeak, but eventually I could hold it at the right tone. I think the best thing that I did in my performance was keeping the rhythm to the song which I usually can do because I am so focussed on playing the notes. Towards the end of the performance I kept mixing c and d up which made it sound weird. I need to practice quickly identifying notes and thinking of the finger positions.
